My worst was as a university student. The landlords had put in a lousy furnace that conked out part way through the winter. They had fled to Florida. The repair person they told us to call had not been paid by the landlord for over a year, but he took pity on us and fixed our furnace.

Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
