broken furnance in the winter ( took a very long time to fix), water heater out, uptairs apartment toilet came through the ceiling into my bathroom with pee & feces all over my floor. needless to say I moved out.

My worst experience as a renter was my second apartment. I would come home from work and my landlord would be dropping a duke in my bathroom. (Landlords aren't supposed to enter the apartment without the knowledge of the renter). He used to "lose" my rent checks, and then have me give him a new one, then he would try to cash both before I could put a stop payment on the first one.

Seems a lot of answers have to do with furnaces and mine does too. The pilot light on my furnace kept going out. One night it had gotten so cold that when I got home from work even the liquid dish soap was frozen!! Didn't take me long to find a new place (once I thawed out)!

omg you had to remind me! We lived in a 2br 1bth house and payed 350 a month on. when we moved in they told us they was going to put in a water well so the water would be off for at the most 2 days. we said ok we could handle that my sister lived right down the st she would let us take showers there. well it was for a whole month we stayed there without water or an icebox cuz ours feel off the trail while moving an didn't have the money to buy another one due to rent an deposit. so for a whole month we stayed in a house that had no water or icebox. plus during that month my ex's car got in pounded it was a mess thank god i got thru it

We moved into a roach motel once cause our house wan't ready yet, and there was bugs everywhere. My and my siblings played a game where we would smash as many bugs as we could and I found a rat. Cut him in half with my first real katana. We stayed only 3 days. We where better off living outside.

Brookline, MA, winter of 1998. My bedroom window would open about one inch in the middle of the night. Every night. It was a long winter... Next winter I was renting somewhere else.

I called a rental agency when me and my bf at the time were looking to move into a larger appartment. The actually told me "we cant rent to you because you arent married"? i was like excuse me? the lady said thats a "roommate situation" and they dont deal with it. Yeah that place was a joke but i thought that was screwed up to tell somebody.

rented for a vacation and our neighbor kept calling the landlord and making up stories that could get us kicked out.
