A lesson on how consultants can make a difference in an organization.

Last week, we took some friends to a new restaurant, "Steve's Place," and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket.

It seemed a little strange. When the busboy brought our water and utensils, I observed that he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket.

Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets. When the waiter came back to serve our soup I inquired, "Why the spoon?"

"Well, "he explained, "the restaurant's owner hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all of our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift."

As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he replaced it with his spare. "I'll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now." I was impressed.

I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter's fly.

Looking around, I saw that all of the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So, before he walked off, I asked the waiter, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?"

"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also learned that we can save time in the restroom.

By tying this string to the tip of our you-know-what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the restroom by 76.39%.

I asked quietly, "After you get it out, how do you put it back?"

"Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the others, but I use the spoon."

Ten . . . to Live

A man hasn't been feeling well, so he goes to his doctor for a complete checkup. Afterward the doctor comes out with the results.

"I'm afraid I have some very bad news," the doctor says. "You're dying, and you don't have much time left."

"Oh, that's terrible!" says the man. "How long have I got?"

"Ten," the doctor says sadly.

"Ten?" the man asks. "Ten what? Months? Weeks? What?"

"Nine..."

What are your thoughts on 80s music? Me I would say it's my overall favorite decade of music, they've had alot of great music that was also considered fun, I'm a big fan of the hair metal bands and some of the heavier metal bands (thrash, NWOBHM), I also liked the commercial rock music of the 1980s (Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Heart)

It's kinda funny how the My Chemical Romance song "Teenagers" is, I think, the first song in the 21st century w/ that word in the title. If I remember, it was only back in the 1950's/early '60s that such songs had "teen" in the song name. I can only remember "Teen Angel" and "A Teenager in Love." (I had 2 play the latter song 4 my guitar lessons a few years ago.) It's a lil unusual how the My Chemical Romance song is an 180° from "A Teenager in Love." & back in the Nifty Fiftys, the old guys called rock 'n roll the devil's music. Or was this b4 Elvis became poplar?

Anyway, I'm asking if any of u no s'more songs that have the words "teen" or "teenager" in the name? & were there even any popular "teen" songs in between the '50s/'60s and 2007?

...today, I organized several drawers that had adapters to this or wires to that, and connectors...also some weird looking things...most of it was my son's "stuff"...he knows so much about it (works at Radio Shack) and helps me sometimes...but, I'm still light years behind the times...I feel so fossilized (sniff)

... tend to find no musical value in genres such as rap and hip-hop?

I mean, if you think about it, it's a far drop from classical, which in all honesty is the pinnacle of musical form, to rap, which is (in my opinion) a travesty and a blight on the airwaves and media.

Don't get me wrong, I love folk music, and enjoy classic rock and some heavy metal. I can even get through most country songs without gagging too much. When it comes to rap, hoewever, my brain shuts down.
