My father used to sing this, it was considered a naughty song THEN. (fifties, sixties)and concerned an old barfly who came to a bar at closing and begged to be able to sleep there, under the bar. Some of the lyrics are "Let nellie sleep under the bar, Let Nellie sleep under the bar, Remember your mother and your sisters too...Let Nellie sleep under the bar.." I have looked for this all over with google and have found nothing on it. Anyone?

There are so many deep theories on consonance and disonance based on scales/chords and, under that, critical bandwidths, timing/amplitude modulation, and overtone arrangements among other factors.

But all I've heard of for judging rhythmic compatibility, on top of being consonant, is Beats Per Minute and the predictability associated with it. But, of course, several poly rhythms with the same BPM can be mixed together and sound terrible (especially with incompatible quantization). And some breakbeats, even using the exact same single drum and tuning, can fail to work together.

Is there any mathematical theory that can determine the most pleasing modulation for any frequency (amplitude and or frequency modulation) in a beat?
