I like all types of movies but a "good" movie is one that has me smiling for awhile afterwards. I'll flash back to it quite often in the days afterwards....

The most important factors are acting and writing, but other factors include directing, editing, score and cinematography.
Sometimes it's hard to define why one film is better than another. A good film requires a lot of skill and talent. The director (with lots of supporting crew) has to set up the scenes, positioning the cameras in the best possible ways in order to provide adequate footage to put together in such a way as to make the story flow with the right dramatic emphasis. If that doesn't happen, the editor won't be able to do a good job.
For a good example, take a look at the film "American Beauty" and see the way the shots are set up. Some of them are masterful -- what you see is perfection; the shots say so much about what is going on, and they're framed beautifully. Visually, that film is stunning and the acting is superb. Personally I found the script to be somewhat depressing, but the look of it knocked my socks off.

A "good" movie has believable characters, good acting, an interesting plot, often with a surprise or twist ending, and often a generous touch of humor. It will be a story that I will remember for a long time. Two good examples: The Italian Job and Primal Fear. Coincidentally, Edward Norton is in both of them. Of the old-time musicals, I always liked Oklahoma! the best.

If it scares the tar out of me, that's a good movie. I am a horror movie buff!

Lot's of violence. Tons of cool (but not dorky or lame) stunts. Swords, bows, capes, cloaks, guns, long trench coats and masive charges on horseback also help.
