I made a new friend at work and now she is destroying my life with gossip. I have tried the usual things...but

I feel like I am in single white female. I never know what is going to happen next. I feel frightened for my future, and I don't know how to fight back. I don't talk to her anymore but that seems to have made it worse. I did confront her, but she evaded me , she always pretends to be sweet to my face.
