you are the beholder of your own beauty

you should never judge your own beauty by anyone else's standards

it just means that everyone has a different opinion on what beauty is

Society should not have to dictate how one looks, as long as one accepts the fact that their looks dictate the society one lives in. In other words, you shouldn't go out naked with a bag over your head because society would dictate that you have committed a crime and you will be charged and punished in most communities. Even more, if everyone went out naked with bags over their heads, can you imagine the effect that would have on society?

To ignore how you view yourself is an impossibility, but to practice that philosophy would be detrimental. How you view yourself is how you judge yourself, and that determines your self-esteem. Your self-esteem can either make you very successful and liked, or leave you depressed and a complete failure, even at the most trivial tasks(such as sweeping the floor). If you refuse to look at yourself and hold yourself to a standard, no one else will until you're caught lying, stealing, or killing. See where it can lead?

Lastly, why should Joan Cusack claim to be more beautiful than Nicole Kidman just because I think Joan Cusack is more attractive than Nicole Kidman? I'm sure many people would say that Nicole Kidman is more beautiful than Joan Cusack, but I think Joan Cusack is more beautiful. So her beauty is in the eye of this beholder........me. Not that Nicole Kidman isn't beatiful, I just like Joan Cusack. The point is that Joan Cusack shouldn't base her view of herself on my opinion and Nicole Kidman shouldn't base her view on the same. Now I'm just boring.

You see yourself everyday, others may not. That makes you the most frequent and important beholder.

If it was possible to judge your own beauty in terms of the way that other's view you, the answer to your question would be yes. However, the answer is actually much more complicated. First of all, it is impossible to truely understand the way others view you and their reasoning for their specific view. Even if another person were to fully explain the way they precieve you, there is no way of actually proving the validity of their explaination. The only view you can ever be sure of is your own, and this view oftentimes proves false when drawing conclusions about yourself.

Never ignore the way you view yourself. Having a positive self-image does miracles for your self-esteem, which ultimately enhances the way others view you. If you want other's preceptions of you to be enhanced, a full-proof way of accomplishing this is gaining more confidence in yourself.

no. it means you are what you see yourself to be. some people may see you as the most beautiful thing in the world while some will see the opposite. the views of other people do not matter how you carry yourself in the society. its the way you see your self and carry yourself that is how pple will carry you in the society. for instance beast still managed to get beauty even though he was the ugliest thing ever. its what is inside you and how you carry yourself that matters not what others think.

That's a good question, however, I don't think it means that we should care what others think. Society already does enough to dictate how we look. While you should be concerned to an extent with how others view you, you shouldn't let that shape your personal style/look completely. You should not mimic what society says you should look like, but you should take those rules into account and adjust them to fit your own unique style.

You dress anyway you want to dress. You put on your clothes, you act certain ways. Society is just what you take it in as. You allow others to judge you, when you listen to what the say or you see them starring at you. When this happens it creates this image in your own head. So you think that's whats going on, but in all reality it is just what you really think. If you didn't care what other people say, but just take it in for your own use not for their use, then you will have all the beauty in the world. People say things to make you feel bad about yourself, you act the way you want others to see you as.

No! think this saying means that beauty is in the eye of the one contemplating. You look at a girl, you like her. You see her beautiful. Your friend dont think so! You are the beholder! Its not the other way round.

I've seen a wicked t-shirt written "Beauty is in the eyes of the beerholder"!

Wow, what a misinterpretation. Go ahead and follow that if you want, but your lack of self-confidence and the neurotic need to fit everyone's image is going to take its toll and then no one will think you're even worth talking to. People are attracted to people who are self-confident and sure of where and who they are.

Some people think Angelina Jolie (for example) is hot, some can't stand to look at her. The same can be said for anyone on this planet. That's what the saying means.

No sweetheart dont listen to the first guy It means it's how you see someone.
If you think someone is gorgeous...think of him, and 30 ppl emailed you n said he was ugly would you stop thinking he was hot cuz of what they think? No, Beauty in the eyes of the beholder means Beauty is itself to every person in peticular. Which means everyone has diff. tastes. Like if you dog had a misshaped head and everyone called him ugly, he would be beautiful to you cuz u love him.

It means we each have our perceptions of what is beautiful, so what is beautiful to me could be ugly to you and vice versa. Think about different cultures and their standards for beauty... they're not always the same from one to the next. So it's the one who's looking who decides if, to him, someone is beautiful or not.

Therefore, in my opinion, we should try our best to be the best we can be and not worry about what other people think, because it's impossible to know and meet everyone's standards.

wait, wait, wait, you are confused as to the 'beholder' part. Someone beholding to you would be someone with a vested interest in you...your mother, boyfriend, etc...So, no, people walkin down the street who don't know you have nothing to do with that. And anyhow, you need to define beauty first before you can answer that question
