So, there is nothing more than mild inconvenience. Hardly an effort worthy of such a noble ideal.

I guess carting food around with me on road trips. Depending on where your driving your options for vegan road food can be slim to none. I always take a cooler with things like vegan butter, dressing, homemade cookie, and snakes, so I don't have to live off of what every junk you can find at dirty conveniences stores and questionable fast food joints. Its worth it to me. I don't think its bad idea for non-vegan out there to do the same.

*LOL ...snakes should be snacks...wow...what would I do with snakes on a road trip? Maybe stay free at hotels by saying I found them in my bed!!!

Yes, cholesterol is found only in foods of animal origin. It's produced in the liver (even yours) so if a living thing has no liver, it has no cholesterol. If you live a vegan lifestyle you *could* still have a high cholesterol level, though - genetics plays a role, as does your consumption of saturated fats. If you eat lots of sat fat, your liver produces excess cholesterol. The majority of vegans have a healthy cholesterol level. Yes, there are breads and pastas that are 100% vegan. Most pasta is just enriched flour and water, though some are made with egg. Just read the label. Bread can be harder because lots of manufacturers put whey and/or honey in their bread. But a little label reading pays off here, too. My grocery store of choice carries and organic "harvest grain" bread that's vegan and delish.

I have to take quite a bit of time planning my meals to make sure they're well-balanced. It gets pretty time consuming sometimes. It was also taking me forever to go shopping when I first went vegan because I didn't know where to find anything, and that's frustrating too. Also--trying to explain it to others. I don't know the last time I ever got so many blank stares. Other things that were part of my routine before I started going vegan were difficult to give up or alter... eating out, going to a friend's for dinner, etc. It's definitely taken a ton of work, but I feel like it's worth it.

Hm.. my boyfriend works at UPS nights to go to college, and they require work boots, which are very hard for vegans to find. But, as with anything else we've had to find, once we know where to get them, we can just go to the same place next time.

Veganism isn't a problem at all, it's trying to navigate a non-vegan world.

Having to cook so much !!!

I love cooking but in between work, college and kids it's become a hassle ... I spend a ridiculous amount of time assembling my family's food (from scratch mostly). I have to pack lunches for my kids to eat a school. Whenever they attend a birthday party (for example) I have to make the exact same thing "veganized". And of course every-time we go out we have to take food with us (vegan restaurants are too pricey)........so yeah I practically live in my kitchen.

It's fun going out with my wife and my meat-and-potatoes in-laws. I just sit there at let them entertain the whole restaurant.
They're crazy motherf*ckers. No need to eat until I get back to their house where my food is.

Last time I went out with them, they asked the server if they had a vegan menu(at a seafood restaurant). The guy was like, "Of course we do.............Oh, you're serious?".
I just turned my head and covered my face. They're so f*cked =).

-------------------------------------------------------------

Whenever my step-mother-in-law sees me making something, no matter how traditional, and I happen to be using a vegan substitute, she has to ask what it is and always shudders and makes a noise like she is disgusted. Then she says "GAWD!!!!! How could you eat that?". She's a total f*ckin drama queen and made my my wife's childhood a living hell. I just smile and go about my business. Then she goes back to drinking her 20 or 30th Pepsi of the day while she chain-smokes and eats a whole bag of gummi bears from Costco. The woman is six feet tall and weighs about 100 pounds (just a guesstimate).

As someone already said... shopping and explaining. Explaining can be really nasty, some people do not really want to know or understand, they prefer to believe they are right and vegetarians/vegans are wrong.
Shopping when you don't know where/what for is uncomfortable and a loss of time.
Eating out, at some point, can be annoying.
The worst for me though is explaining.

definately people who become strangely defensive when they find out im a vegan, they will try to make fun of me or tell me how they are right and i am wrong...before 2 words have even come out of my mouth. they must know eating animals is inherantly wrong...or why would they be on the defensive without me saying a cross word? obviously they think they have something to defend....just an observation

Small towns are always hard for vegans and vegetarians.

If your just staying or passing through you pretty much have to cart food everywhere.

Its not so hard around the city.
