They make gelatin by boiling animal parts. They make fertilizer, used on your produce, by boiling animal parts. Both are made from the same "pot" of boiling animal parts.

Why is gelatin avoided like the plague but you will all eat the produce and don't demand that it be fertilized differently?

Before you say it, "organic" produced is fertilized this way as well.

emily---commercial produce (organic too) is fertilized in this way. See the link.

evil---exactly. You are claiming the fertilizer isn't the norm, therefore you should have proven it as opposed to being a smartass. When you refute a referenced claim, you need to provide a referenced claim, otherwise, your's is simply an opinion.

I don't want to consume a substance that comes from an animal's body. I don't care who eats Skittles or anything else but I don't want my money to go towards it.

That's what is supposed to happen with dead animals. They decompose and then they are recycled and used by plants, fungi, bacteria, insects, etc. All of the water that I use and drink has once been part of another animal whether is was a week ago or millions of years ago. If everyone ate a diet similar to mine, there would be no supply of animal by-products to use as fertilizer.

As long as I don't contribute to the reason that the animal was born, killed or held in horrible conditions, my immediate goal has been reached. My long term motivations are to live as an example so that people who know me can see that I am healthy, happy, sane and friendly without any need for animal products.

I try to go as far as I can, but 100% animal-free produce is not possible to any person that is not rich or does not want to excommunicate themselves. Even by this logic though, no pile of dirt is vegan.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be nice to have more control over my money ending up in the pockets of the food-animal industries. If such produce were available, I have no idea if I could afford it. Even so, I doubt that the extra cost is justifiable when I have son due in little over a month. Even if I didn't, it doesn't really help the way that animals are treated

Eating plants grown this way does not bother me. It's natural. It is unnatural in the way that the animals live beforehand.

First of all, I'd like to see proof of your claims, as I've never heard this before, and I'd like to stay informed.

Secondly, if what you say is true than it would be because gelatin is avoidable while fruit and vegetables are not. In this world it's impossible to eat completely vegan, the idea is to do as little harm as possible, even if you are forced by your own bodily needs to do some.

Edit: Your link is broken.

Edit #2: Link seems to be working fine now. It doesn't say anything about the use of rendered animals in fertilizer being the norm, only that it does happen. For all we know it could happen 1% of the time or 100%. Still seems likely to me that most vegetables aren't grown this way.

Edit #3: Burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

there is no information about how wide spread the practise is. and whats with the attitude that if you cant do it 100% then theres no point at all. thats a get nothing, go nowhere type of mind set. how do you know allllll produce including organic is fertalized this way. i dont demand that it be fertilized differently because i know for a fact that the produce i get is not fertilized this way.

You are very narrowly informed. YES some fertilizer is made this disgusting way. However, much is not. MY fertilizer is cow poo. Not pretty, but nothing like you seem to think it all is.

What is your point?

Vegans navigate our world the best we can, and we sure as hell don't need a meat-eater lecturing us about our being forced to compromise sometimes. Get a life.

Do you get off on attacking veg*ans? Good gravy man, did someone do something really horrible to you and now you attack all veg*ans to vent your anger? You must have some serious issues if all you do is attack us.

Why so full of hate? And don't try to tell me you aren't.
