A 15-year-old boy has admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a hamster after freezing it, tumble-drying it and then putting it in a washing machine.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Harrogate Youth Court.

Youth magistrates banned him from keeping animals for four years and passed a 12-month supervision order.

RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh said: "What this boy did was horrendous."

He explained that it took over half an hour for the hamster, named Poppy, to die.

After first being put in a freezer then heated in a revolving drum, it finally drowned in the washing machine.

Mr Pugh said the animal "suffered severe pain and mental stress" and a post-mortem showed it had lesions on its feet and torn claws.

The vet concluded these were most likely caused by frostbite, trying to climb out of the freezer or hang on to the inside of the dryer drum. She died of severe respiratory or cardiovascular damage.

Poppy's owner called the RSPCA after finding the pet in the bin.

"The teenager was one of several who were guests at the owner's house. The owner had been out for the evening and came home to find the evidence of what happened. There were droppings in the freezer and the tumble-dryer," said Mr Pugh.

"Poppy was bought as a gift for the owner's daughter, who was obviously distraught.

"This was an act of senseless cruelty against a defenceless animal."

I spend about an hour in the morning on here. And I am on here late at night or early morning. Earlier I asked if anyone recognized my name. No one did. My question is why wouldn't you recognize my name if I'm here with the same people everyday on P&S? I notice everyone even if I don't talk to anyone.

It looks so sad when you see a lonely glove stuck on some railings. And other lost things, like scarves, and babies socks. And single shoes you see lying in the gutter. What happens to all these lost things, I wonder, and to their other halves?

My mom doesn't understand why I wouldn't want to talk to her everyday. I explained to her many times how I have a busy life, work full time come home exhausted and try to spend time with my fiance, but she doesn't get it. Also whenever I call there is no avoiding the fact that the call is never less than a half an hour, it's impossible to make a quick little call to her to say hi because she will talk non-stop and I can't interrupt her to say I gotta go cause that would be rude. She's not lonely she has a husband and stepkids but I am her everything and its too much for me! What can I do?

Several people in my office, mainly female, take their shoes off during the day. At their desks. Given the fact hardly anyone wears nylons anymore, this leaves them with bafe feet. Do you or anyone in your office do this?

Lets start with the day so you get a good perspective. The guy that I like whom asked me out a few weeks ago but has to postpone the date till the 13th cause he gets his licence back that day from speeding. Anyways..he has made it obvious he likes me, he knows I do too now..he was sceptical and self concious asking me out thinking I wouldnt like him. Yesterday I went to the casino (where he works). And went to guest services and they said "happy birthday sarah"..I did not know how they knew me. They gave me a envelope where I opened it and there was a gift card from the guy I like for 25$! and it said "good luck" with a heart around his name. I saw him and gave him a hug and he asked if I wanted to go outside with him for a smoke to which of course I said yes. He gave me a extra coat of his cause it was cold. I went out and we talked, he was like "ya I told my dad 'wow she can cook!she can really cook!'" (becuase I told him I cook before). When we went inside he asked if I wanted to
