Why is it that subtitles on old films (like black & white) are shown for quite a while on screen, and the further into the future we get - the less time on screen the subtitles are shown?

Do the film makers believe the human race continously developes faster reading skills? ......its now at the point where i can either watch the film or read the subtitles but not do both.

Anyone else get this or just me? ?

I have a friend and everyone thinks he likes me but I don't feel that way about him. I am friends with his best friend, his sisters and him but everyone keeps asking us if we are going out. He waits for me to go to my locker and when I go to my locker he waits for me to go to my seventh period. I am so confused. My friend also has a gf but they never show any affection and when we are a group of friends he just keeps looking at me. I need a bunch of help because I am just so puzzeled. When I told him I went out with this guy, he just was giving me a hard time and kept calling me and saying "Why would you do that??" and stuff like that. I don't understand, he shouldn't be in control of my dating life. He knows all my classes and has them memorized and I don't know how that is. I guess he talks to people I know. It is extremely weird. Please help me. No sexual or perverted comments.
