This is the first home my husband and I have owned, it's a condominium that was purchased 10 months ago. We just experienced a flood due to an improperly installed valve. We are selling the condo back to the builders (as it was brand new when purchased and this was VERY unforseen). We will be purchasing a new home and rolling all equity into it (there will be about $20,000 in equity with the buy-back due to current market value). Will we have to pay capital gains on the $20,000? Will this fall under "Unforseen Circumstances" and qualify for a lower exclusion? Or is there something else??? THANKS!

I want to buy a $300 margarita machine from Williams Sonoma and have the store mail it to a friend in Nicaragua. I don't want to leave this friend with a hefty price tag to pay when he goes to retrieve the machine from customs. Any way to find out how much he would have to pay before I make the purchase?
Thanks so much.

I understand that withdrawals are penalized and that taxes are also deducted at the time of the withdrawal. What I'm not sure about is if I still have to include the net portion of the withdrawal on my income taxes. If they have to be included, isn't the same money getting taxed two times? Can someone give me some advice/explanations?

For the past several months, I've been getting requests from people to get their gowns and clothes altered. I've been making good money and was wondering if I have to pay taxes and file taxes next year or something cause it's sorta like my own little business? What are the rules regarding this?

The reason I ask is cause I know some people who have jobs like mine and don't file taxes or anything, but I don't want to get in trouble or anything.
Any ideas?
