i know what mono is, my sister had a bad case of mono, she was in the hospital for a while, so i dont need to know what it is. i was recently (2 weeks ago) really sick, i had a really sore throat, i had/have a fever, but it comes and goes. i was given a z-pack, but it didnt even work. i've been to 2 different doctors, the first said i had a sinus infection, the second said the first was wrong and i had a virus.
i think they were both wrong, because during both visits the doctors came in and were out in a matter of minutes, it seemed like they didnt even care.
i didnt think anything of it at first, but then i started thinking, maybe i have mono?
-i've been VERY tired lately, i cant seem to ever wake up, even when i want to wake up, i simply cant because im so tired.
-ive also had a serious loss of appetite, i barely eat anymore, im just not hungry. i eat maybe 2 meals a day, thats it.
-i still have a sore throat
-i have a runny nose
-my body is just sore, i cant work out or do anything

Yes, it could. You have most of the symptoms. Go to another doctor and tell him you think its mono. If youve been making out a lot or sharing utensils and drinks thats what it is.

Ive had strep throat 10 times already and always know when it is and last time I went to a doctor he told me it was the flu and was going to do a flu test and I told him i knew it was strep, he said there is no way I said take the test anyway. Turns out i was right and the meds fixed the symptoms in 2 days.

You need to go to the doctor before it gets worse though

This could definitely be mono. I have had mono for three months now so I am pretty familiar with the symptoms. Being fatigued is a huge sign of mono, that is what made my doctor decide to test me for it. Sore throat is a huge one too. I would definitely suggest getting tested, even if the doctor says it probably isn't mono. It never hurts to check.

I was diagnosed with strep throat first, then I didn't get better, and they just said I had a virus. My third visit, I got a mono test, and that's what it was. Keep pushing till you get answers.

I would have bloodwork done for all STD's and possibly thyroid disorder. Also, do you have a rash or what may look like exema? If so there is a condition called Urticarial Vasculitis that causes many of the symptoms you described. It is also a good chance you are just going through growing pains, many people don't know that growing pains can afect you well into your life, most people start taking all these prescritions and stunt their growth or cause their hormones to change.

I'd say watch it closely and try not to freak out, try over the counter (herbal preferably) medicines for sinusitis and herbal teas (to help your sore throat).

If nothing happens in a week I would suggest heading to the emergency room and letting them know your condition and exactly what is going on and how long it has lasted.

Well coming from someone that was recently tested for relatively the same symptoms for mono... the doctor's & nurses had told me that lately they've been seeing more frequent cases of mono accompanying a sinus infection. So it could be like many others who are thought o just have a severe sinus infection, but really have mono. Mono tests can be pricey BUT if you have it, people have been known to die for not getting proper treatment for it. I would suggest to not let your self sleep over 8-9 hours b/c you could be letting yourself get overly sleepy. I would also suggest forcing your body to eat more & more b/c when you slowly reduce your appetite, your body can handle less & less. Also drink orange juice- it breaks up mucus & take children's vitamins, haha my body hates vitamins so I take the smaller ones just so i don't feel worse.

AND GET TESTED! My words above are just in the meantime & are not to cure it or whatever else you may have. I hope you feel better & that helps.

Ask the doctor to do a blood test to be sure that it is or isn't mono. Also, have them check your ears. I have been having the same problems and I have been having ear infections since September and now I am getting my tonsils out in January because of the problem. Don't give up, my doctor sent me to an ENT after my third ear infection within a couple weeks and the first doctor said I had TMJ(jaw problems). I didn't believe that for one minute and asked for a second opinon and here my tonsils were severly swollen and scarred. I am glad I stuck to my gut and pursued all options!

Oh I hope you don't have it, but the bright side is if you do you will lose weight? Trying to find the light,....

What are the signs of mono?

In addition to a fever from 102 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, the most common signs of mono are:

* a very reddened throat and tonsils and
* swollen lymph glands in the neck.

The tonsils have a whitish coating in at least one-third of the cases. The spleen (sometimes referred to as the body's biggest lymph node), is an organ found in the left upper abdomen underneath the rib cage which becomes enlarged or swollen in about 50% of patients with mono. An enlarged liver may also occur. About 5% of patients have a splotchy red rash over the body, which has a similar appearance to the rash of measles.

Could be. It just sounds like a really bad case of the flu to me though. They have the same symptoms. If you are really worried about it I would go to the doctor and ask them to do the finger poke test for mono. It takes three minutes and then you will know for sure.

You could have it. You should ask a doctor for a blood test to see if you have it. I had this done a few years ago, but i didn't have it. However, you could just have the flu. But I am not a doctor, that's your only sure way of knowing. Feel better!

You could be anemic and have Mono. Either way only a doctor and a blood test will determine for sure and provide you with the necessary medication and suggestions for recovery.
