Do you prefer tent camping , pop up , or full camper? Do you like the more commerical campgrounds with all the facilities or a quiet lake with mostly nature to occupy you?

I'm a wilderness camper. I camp 30 miles from a town of 200. I camp on a lake, and have NEVER seen another human, except those camping with me, in the 10 years I've been going there. No traffic, no music, nothing but the sounds of nature. I use a dome tent, and that, fishing rods, tackle, and cookware are all i need for 18 days. I love walking away from the campfire at night, to watch the Northern Lights, or just look at stars, without city light messing up the view.

The times I remember the best are the times I loaded an ultralight tent and sleeping bag and rode my mountain bike up to and along the Continental Divide in Colorado with my fiancee for a week at a time. I didn't see anyone else other than her for the entire trip, and we really got a chance to talk about everything under the sun. One night we were camped so high on the side of Mt. Elbert that we watched as a thunderstorm came down the valley BELOW us. It was totally cool to see a lightning storm from above! The night was crystal clear above us - no clouds from us on up.

Tent camping with a very minimalist approach to "stuff" is the way I prefer to go. I have to admit, though, that as I've gotten much older, I have splurged on a nicer foam pad for the 'ole back!! :-)

That depends on what I am doing.

Overall, I like to go backpacking and camp far into the woods.

I often camp out of my car at campgrounds, but that's usually taking the place of a hotel when travelling. I usually pack up first thing in the morning and get going.

I do go cabin camping from time to time. This occurs most often when I am staying at scout camp for the weekend because I am volunteering there.

I never stay in a pop-up or RV.

my all time favorite camping is either alone or with a small group (no more than three).
I like remote. I like to go lite as possible, keeping gear to an absolute minimum. I don't use a tent or many gadgets. A sleeping bag, bivy sack, light pack......

If I can be on the trail for two weeks and run into no one else at all....that is the optimal situation. Not that I'm anti social, I just see people every day and don't get to submerse myself in the wild every day.

I also like to fish and climb, so all of the places I go tend to either be water routes (by canoe or kayak) or in the mountains.

Spending time with my wife and kids is the most important thing, and they do not share my love of minimalist camping...so when they camp with me I tend to look for the most interesting natural places I can squeeze out of a state or national park, even if we are within spitting distance of the car.

tent camping is the way to go-- and in the woods all by yourself. It is just you and mother nature! I enjoy this much better than a campground and camper with 100 thousand people around!!

Vintage trailer camping is the only way to camp for me....The sport of vintage trailer camping or vintage trailer rallies have been growing in popularity the last few years and prices for the older campers are on the rise....Trailer brands with names like Serro Scotty, Shasta, Airstream just to name a few.....I run more than 60 Vintage trailer groups online.
There is a group for each state of the country for anyone that's interested in the sport.
Below I have linked our main group that now has close to 1000 member and another link for the state groups.
........Thanks Gator Ron from Florida

personally i like the grab a poncho, some food, water, fire starter, and go camp. i have a older tent trailer that i use with the family but no plumbing or cooking in it. we go to an indian reservation that offers camping near a cool stream and its usually kind of full but is alot of fun.

Ultralight backpacking in the Central Sierra from Tahoe to Sequoia. Ultralight backpacking allows one to hike at day-hiking speed and comfort while being able to camp overnight instead of driving home the same day. It also combines the sport of backpacking with the almost equally fun hobby of gear collecting and adds the bonus hobby of making your own gear.

I also include my family in all my plans, their enjoyment and comfort being a top priority. We carry all my son's gear so he can concentrate on hiking, but as soon as he's old enough to sew his own backpack and sleeping quilt he'll be old enough to carry all his own stuff. I've made a backpack for my wife and sleeping quilts for all of us. We sleep under a tarp and cook on a 1 ounce alcohol stove. We have umbrellas instead of Gore-Tex and stay perfectly dry and warm.

With our UL gear we get way up into the back country of the Sierra and have the place to ourselves.
