I'm pretty sure the answer you are looking for is essential amino acid but that's not a protein. Amino acids when hooked together make a protein. Whoever wrote the quiz does not appear to understand what is being asked.

I think the question is poorly worded. I guess the answer they are looking for is "essential amino acid." Protein is protein; and amino acids are components of protein. It seems like they might be using the words "protein" and "amino acid" interchangably, which is kind of confusing.

I believe the term you're looking for is "essential amino acid." Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins; your body can make some (non-essential) but you have to get the rest (essential) from your diet.
