We've tried to have seven types of fish in past years, but this time we had only lemon sole and lobsters.

Sounds like too much fried food to me. No, I haven't had the 7 fish thing and I would like to know where in Italy is this tradition followed? I've been in and out of Italy for many many years and have never run across this. I've eaten plenty of fish but never a "Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve".
In any case here's what I'd do:
1. Fresh stuffed scallops (in their shell)
2. Baccalà mantecato
3. Linguini with cuttle fish (black pasta)
4. Stuffed calamari
5. Baked grouper
6. Fried small fresh mullet and sardines
7.Octopus salad

Nope, i'm no longer Italian, and that i won't be able to stand any fish different than tuna salad. around right here, Christmas Eve is time for the feast of 7 cheeses (a minimum of), some L'il Smokies in barbeque sauce, and a bottle of bubbly. Now it rather is that this sturdy Scots-chinese language-close by American woman likes to rejoice!
