BEWARE the answer you have already is completely incorrect. Your sinuses or inflamed and they will bleed. Some times they bleed more than others. But regardless if your worried then go see a doctor. you could have ruptured a blood vessel. This is not a quick fix. Beware of advice your getting some people have no clue what their talking about.

Well, it's winter, and the heat is on, and the air is very dry, and the membranes lining your nose and nasal passages are dry, and when you have a runny nose, you blow it alot. So you have probably irritated the lining of your nasal passages, or maybe you have a little infection that, along with the dryness has caused a tear that is bleeding.

I have had one or two of these little bleeds every winter all my life. My dad was a doctor. Nobody cauterized anything in my nose.

If you can get a humidifier, that would help. Another thing I do at night when the air is particularly dry is take some vaseline petroleum jelly, and just put a skim of it around my nose on the inside -- moisturize my nose with vaseline. It helps.

When you get a nosebleed, get up, get a little wad of toilet paper or a piece of cotton ball. Wet it, roll it, and make a little plug that fits into the seeping nostril. Then get a face cloth, wet it in cold, cold water (because cold causes clotting) and pinch the nose with the cold rag over the full length of the nose to induce clotting. Put your head back. Hold it for a couple of minutes.

Leave the plug (which will look disgusting, by the way) in your nose for an hour or so. Go to bed and go to sleep. Sit and watch TV. Whatever. Turn on the humidifier. When the plug comes out it may bring a clot with it -- disgusting, but good. The little tear will be scabbed over, and if you blow your nose again vigorously, it may re-open and bleed again a little. So try not to blow your nose for 10 - 12 hours out of that nostril.
Moisturize the nostril with Vaseline.

And forget about it. Unless you have a really, really serious nosebleed that sends you to the ER (when you tilt your head back, you drink and drink and drink your own blood), you don't need anything but to let your nose rest and humidify the air in your home. Everything's fine.

Its hard to say what is causing it, but the treatment is the same regardless of the cause.. Given the amount of bleeding you are experiencing, the leaky blood vessel should probably be cauterized, which seals the leak. Its a simple procedure at the docs office - usually a thin wire that emits a spark, or a wire with a drop of silver nitrate. It only takes a second, and it only causes a little bit of a sting.

Just in like humans, an upper respiratory infection can cause nose bleeds. She probably needs a stronger antibiotic.
