A friend of mine in high school was a Type 1 diabetic and he decided he could wean himself off insulin. He went into a coma a week after trying this brilliant idea. When he came out of the coma, he had permanent brain damage - this really messed up his whole life.

Unfortunately, with diabetes, you have only one choice - to keep the diabetes under control. You can mess around with different dosages of insulin and eat a bunch of sugar, but its a little like playing Russian roulette - if you goof up, the mistake might be with you for the rest of your shortened life.

Diabetes when you're 14 or 15, acts differently within your body due to your physical growth and your hormones changes than when you were 6 or7, or when you're 20-21. So how you take care of yourself must be different also. I would assume you take insulin and monitor your blood sugar levels at least 4x a day, more when you feel the diabetic symptoms. Without insurance, it can be expensive to see a physician, but probably your parents should take you. Diabetes is one of the most serious diseases in the developed world. Maybe there is a diabetic association which can help with subsidies and courses to train you further. Some pharaceutical companies will offer you a free gloucometer if you purchase your testing sticks regularly from them. Plus medical reading. Take their pamphlets and maybe start a discussion club at school for other kids with this condition. It may seem like a long time, but once you become an adult, all these changes to your body will level out and your treatment/control should also. In the meantime, don't settle for high blood sugar readings. There is sugar hidden in so many industry-products, you need to educate yourself about it. For example, if you need to raise your blood sugar at a normal rate, an apple will be much more regular than downing a glass of apple juice unless you need it quickly. And honey is no healthier a sweetner for you than white sugar when it comes down to it.

im assuming you're a type 1 diabetic..unfortunately your body does not get used to high glucose levels..i am a nurse and i have seen too many young people come in to the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis which is a life threatening complication..it can become a frustrating disease but it is crucial to monitor your sugar everyday and to use your insulin..diet is an extremely important factor and you must regulate it appropriately....i wish you the best

High levels of sugar are going to damage your body. Period.

Since you are diabetic, you cannot process the glucose in your blood properly.

You must control your diet, if someone else is cooking and buying the food, you need to impress upon them how important it is to eat a diet low in starch and refined sugar.
