I am new on my job and some of the associates got me very nice holiday gifts. Except for my own boss, most of them are people I barely know. I want to send thank you notes that are sincere, but it is hard to write a personal note when I don't even know what a couple of them look like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your great suggestions. I used a combination of approaches and had the task completed within a few hours. I can't pick a favorite answer because there were too many good ones, so I'm putting this to a vote. Thanks again.

When you send a thank you note, it's always nice to add something additional about the item or items you received for an example: Dear Sue, Thank you very much for the candles. I will use them in my living room because the colors are perfect with my color theme. Again, thank you very much, ....Most Sincerely, Pat....another example would be: Dear Sue, Thank you very much for the lovely picture frame. I will put a picture of my mom and me in it, so I can always look at it and remember our vacation in Florida. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness. Most Sincerely, Pat...........Thank you notes are small sized 5" x 3 1/2" so make your thank yous short and sweet.....

You don't need to know someone to send them a thank you - best wishes note...... You can just say "Thank you for the wonderful XXX you were so kind to give me. I wish you a wonderful holiday season, I hope you have a great time and a happy new year with the people you love"..... or something like that. That's personal but still can be applied to nearly anyone.

I usually buy a little card (the smaller the card the less room to fill) and say;

To (You),
Thank you very much for the (oven gloves), they look beautiful and I have needed a pair for some time!
I hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.
With best regards,
(Me)

Easy, every boxing day since I was about four I've had to sit at the table writing thank you cards!

(By the way, please don't say You and Me, that could be seen as odd by some people.)

Make sure you mention the gift and how it will be used in the note:
Dear Sue,
Thank you for the lovely scented candle. I will enjoy the scent of Sugar Cookies each time I light it. I just hope I don't get hungry for them every time. Watch out waistline!
Thanks again,
Mary

http://entertaining.about.com/cs/etiquette/a/thankyou.htm

This site give some ediquette and examples. First and foremost be genuine and brief with a comment about what they gave and how much you like or appreciate it. 2-3 sentences is enough

Now get writing because the pay off of a good thank you is well worth it.

Just address the note to whomever, and simply say Thank You for the christmas gift. You should specifically name the gift. And sign your name. Merry Christmas!

Keep it short, sweet, and to the point.

Thankyou for the lovely gift.
I will enjoy using it.
elliebear

Ha ha ha. :-)
You could mention the gift by name.
