So, my new years resolution is to go veg. Seriously. Before you say "oh my gosh Jen what happened to you" or "oh my gosh Jen that will only last 2 days you practically are a hamburger" hear me out.
I've done the whole vegetarian thing before. It did only last 2 days because I did it for the wrong reasons. This time I'm doing it for myself, not because "my friends will think I'm cool".
I've always felt that certain animals were put on this planet for us to consume. Survial of the fittest. But in no way shape or form were animals put here for us to use, abuse, mutate, mutilate, and torture. This whole need of mass production for mass consumption is not at all how God inteded us to treat his creatures.
I've always been an animal lover and because of this I've downright ignored the facts. Everytime I hear a story I change the subject. But by ignoring these facts I've just been handing over money to the people who are doing the things I abhor.

This isn't a put down to those of you who do eat meat, I had beef for dinner last night. This is just me making a statement about making a change. January 1st is when it begins.
Those of you who agree with me please oh please send your support! I don't really know where to begin. But it's something I've been considering for a very long time and I'm finally ready to make a change.
TYVM!

Good for you! It's a lot easier to just ignore the facts than to make a lifestyle change. I spent many years being an "animal lover" but still eating meat, until I saw a video called Meet Your Meat. It's rewarding to know that you're helping to prevent cruelty to animals every time you sit down for a meal, and I'm glad I made the switch. Good luck and check out this site for lots of transition tips:

I was vegetarian for 20 years (give or take) and vegan for about five - six years. Vegetarian because my neighbors cow, Bob was my friend and ate apples from my hand and licked my hand and I was given no warning before Bob was served to me on a bun. I didn't crave meat again until I was pregnant - at which point I knew all about antibiotics and hormones, etc. But recently I've begun eating beef again - bought directly from a rancher who raises cattle and treats them right and no injections, etc.
I don't eat milk products or eggs due to food intolerance issues. My son is vegan (his personal tastes and a bad milk allergy) my daughter eats anything.
Good luck with your choices. Just know that throughout life your choices may change and that is okay. Just eat thoughtfully and with care of what you put into your body. Best of luck!
Edit to add: I eat 2-3 meals a week with that beef at most and eat vegan the rest of the time. I also avoid wheat/gluten and have for 12 years. Thus I eat very little prepackaged food and do my best to buy local and organic whenever I can.

I was raised on a somewhat farm so there was basically no such thing as a meal without meat in it. Later in life I had gone to live in India where my husband is from and didn't have much option expect to become vegetarian. Since then (4 years ago) now if I try to eat meat I feel sick as my body is not used to digesting it anymore. So if you remain vegetarian for a length of time it can be difficult to become a meat eater again if you decide to. Though you crave meat it makes ya sick to eat it. But it is definately a healthy way of life and saves lives of animals the less people who eat them and does make you feel more healthy and energetic.

I hope you're successful. A vegetarian lifestyle is pretty rewarding once you get the hang of it. I've been a vegetarian since I was 9 years old and never turned back. It's quite healthy.
I have to disagree with the idea that certain animals were put on this earth for us to consume, just based on what is explained here: http://www.goveg.com/naturalhumandiet_physiology.asp but hey, to each their own.
Good luck, and keep asking questions when you feel like you're stumbling, lots of vegetarians would love to help budding ones!

I'm not 100% vegetarian, but I'm leaning that way.
Man does not have the teeth, claws, or digestive system of meat eating animals. Man has the teeth, claws, and digestive system of plant eating animals.
Can a man do as other meat eating animals, go out and capture an animal, wild or domestic, kill it with his hands, remove it's flesh with it's hands, and just eat it, not cook it, just eat it?
Or at least can man go to the local food store and buy a raw chicken or pork roast, and bring it home, and eat it, don't cook it, just eat it? Of course not, we are not designed to be meat eaters, we have adapted with cooking it.
Vegetarians have alot less disease and sickness than meat eaters, vegetarians live longer.

Good for you! I've been a vegetarian for about two months and I'm so glad! :D It was kind of hard at the start because I used love meat but I got used to it. I can't ever see myself eating meat again. I'm an animal lover too and that's why I decided to become a vegetarian. :) You can still enjoy lots vegetarian friendly food and you'll get used to it. Good luck! :D

i've actually been a vegetarian for 2 days, and i know this sound stupid, but i actually feel lighter inside.. i can't believe that i thought eating those poor animals was the only way to survive.
i used to be just like u ignoring all the facts, i remember watching this video in econ class about the corporations adding hormones to cows and chickens to make them really large so they'd be sold for more money...
i remember feeling disgusted but i just ignored it later.
anyways, u r doing the right thing by becoming vegetarian for the animals and hopefully u'll stick with it because u'll feel so good inside..
good luck..

Good lucky honey. The animals that aren't killed for your enjoyment will thank you. They know death is coming when they hit that floor (sometimes when they're in the van going to the slaughterhouse)
.
Take a multivitamin and do TONS of research regarding your health. =) it isn't hard, but the first couple of weeks can be rough.
