my question is serious, instead of manufacturing arms and then a phoney war to use them, HOW MANY SOLAR PANELS ( AND JOBS MAKING THEM ) COULD THE WEST HAVE PROVIDED WITH THE VAST AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON WARFARE.
I heard a figure of $2billion a week and thought the money might have been better spent making our own electricity/power rather than raping an innocent country of their resources. surely it equates to 1 million solar panels a week and jobs lost in the arms industry would be replaced by jobs making solar panels and associated products/services?
Anyone out there got any SENSIBLE opinions?
Anyone done the maths to see if my theory stands up?
I'll expect the usual PRO-US abuse, but history is already proving the futility immorality & failure of the phoney war on terrorism.
I am British and paying a fortune to heat/light my humble home, as well as paying immense taxes to send my friends sons off to be killed in an illegal war.

Instead of spending a potential two trillion dollars in Iraq, thrown around the way the US has thrown money at this war, we could have put solar panels on every building (in deserts too), not to mention investment in other forms of alternate energy. We could have electric cars. In fact, we could make a major downpayment on a car for every driver. The Saudis would be begging to sell us oil for $2 per gallon again. This would significantly reduce the CO2 we are putting into the atmosphere. And other countries would have far more respect for the US than they have today.

The fight in Iraq is not phony and no one is raping an innocent country the way Saddam raped them. Just be glad that in the past, governments did spend money on arms and fighting wars or you might be speaking Spanish, French or German. It is likely that this war may keep you from speaking Arabic, being forced to be a Moslem and live under Sharia law. All of which is a bit more important than your selfish whining about having the government provide you with solar panels.
No war is illegal when the government has approved of it, and this one was approved. Just because you are so self-centred as to not care what dictators do to their own people as long as you have yours doesn't mean you are right.

Just a reminder that it is not the Government's job to build your house; that's your job utilizing some work ethic, creativity, and a free market society. A government's job (unless you like communism and/or socialism) is to provide for a workable infrastructure, fair and equitable justice system, hasty emergency response mechanism to deal with overwhelming natural disasters, and a national security and defense to sustain your freedom to live, work, and build your own solar panels (or whatever else you think you might want). Since we are terminating the terrorists abroad which keeps them from detonating themselves in your town, perhaps you should take advantage of the freedom that this "phoney war" has given you and start a solar panel development business. If u do not like this idea i then recommend moving to a socialistic society and see if your dictatorship and/or terroristic government will give you solar panels.
