COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, it is very painful to live with, and yes you can live with it. I have known people that had it, but in the long run it does wear a person down and they pass away.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, under the umbrella of COPD is emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Asthma used to be part of COPD, but no longer is classified as such. Individuals with COPD have problems with shortness of breath and oxygenation of blood, the tend to have less oxygen and more carbon dioxide in their blood.
Many medical conditions can be impacted secondary to COPD.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. yes, you can. My dad lives with it.
The main symptoms of COPD include dyspnea (shortness of breath) lasting for months or perhaps years, possibly accompanied by wheezing, and a persistent cough with sputum production.[2] It is possible the sputum may contain blood and become thicker (hemoptysis), usually due to damage of the blood vessels of the airways.
Severe COPD could lead to cyanosis (bluish decolorization usually in the lips and fingers) caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood. In extreme cases it could lead to cor pulmonale due to the extra work required by the heart to get blood to flow through the lungs.[3]

It's a lung disease, and yes, you can live with it but it requires treatment. It's SORT of like living with diabetes. You have to stay on top of it.
From what I understand, normal air sacs expand and contract, but in a COPD patient, they don't do that so well. Medications like inhalers help, and antibiotics help with the chronic bronchitis.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
I know quite a few elderly people who have lived with and managed this disease for years. You need to listen to and follow your doctor's advice. It CAN be managed. If you do what you're supposed to, you could outlive your doctor.
