Stop eating meat. If you are a sometime vegetarian, you can eat fish. If you want to be a vegan, stop eating anything that haas ever had contact with an animal (that includes milk, cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, yogurt, chocolate, etc.)

It helps to figure out which faux meats you do & don't like... then you can keep eating your favorite meals but replace the meat with faux meats. Here's a list of good products: http://vegcooking.com/guide-favs.asp

Some people transition over the course of a few weeks and some switch overnight so feel free to go at your own pace. Good luck!

Educate yourself! It's the most important thing you can do for yourself in the beginning. Learn what you should/shouldn't be eating. Find out about hidden animal ingredients, and when shopping read all labels. Eventually it all becomes easier. :)

Stop eating meat.
There are thousands of websites that can tell you what to eat to get the protein and B12 (the primary nutrients from meat) from plant sources.
