i'm thinking about becoming a vegetarian for animal rights, but not vegan. however, i'd feel like i was doing a disservice by eating animal products like eggs and cheese. but i'm a teenage girl and i think it would be way too hard to do that. is it still good to eat just vegetarian? by not directly supporting murder.

It doesn't matter what we think. You're doing it for YOU aren't you?

There is a dark side to what happens to the animals with eggs and dairy as well. If you choose to, look into it.

Going vegetarian is a good start. But a few months after I went vegetarian and found out about the dairy-veal connection and the horrors of the egg industry, I went vegan. I didn't become veg with the intent of becoming vegan, but that's what happened. Some people say that eggs and dairy are worse than meat and that you should give that up FIRST.

For now, just go vegetarian if that's what's most confomrtable for you. You can decide to go further and become vegan at a later date.

I have the same dilemna. When you're becoming vegetarian for animal rights reasons and you've really done your reading, then you know the real way to go is vegan. I'm only vegetarian (and struggling to be honest) not vegan. Right now, I feel like this is a step up from meat eating. I try to be concious of eating eggs, cheese and other animal products. I also avoid buying leather. I hope to someday be vegan but it's going to have to be a slow process. I think everything you do is better than nothing at all.

do what you feel is best or what you can achive dont do something for someone else's title.

Think of it this way there are 2 types of cows and 2 types of chickens. the meat and the other (milk and eggs)
Being vegerterian means you support the exploitation and slorter of the second type but not the first therefor you are helping a large % of the animals which is better then most people.
Humans are not and will never be perfect. You doing what you are doing is way better then eating meat and the other.
Most people do not go from omnivore to vegan. when you are older you may decide to go further.
Dont do anything for others just do what you feal is right and what you should. dont let others gilt you into fealing bad for eating dairy or eggs.

Remember vegetarians don't eat fish and most dont eat cheeses that have rennent (animal intestine in them which is most cheeses), or geletene. or things cooked in animal fat like some chips ect as they directly come from dead animals

GL with your decision.

I'm glad when anyone makes any kind of improvement.
I did want to say that you can't support animal rights and not be vegan. Hell, Im vegan and merely a welfarist.

Anyway, all that said, now that I know better, I say if you want to make a significant improvement but not go all the way, cut out dairy and eggs and keep eating meat. Dairy and eggs just prolong the cruelty. The animals end up in the exact same place as the straight-to-meat ones, after an even crueler life.

im 14 and iv been a vegetarian for 7months now.
in the beginning it was really hard, and i wanted to give in so much, but like you i did it for animal rights.
after a few weeks i didnt miss it at all.i can sit at a table with my family and watch them eating chicken or whatever and not want one little bit, infact i am almost discusted when i see them eating it,expecially kfc ect..
I wanted to become a vegan but i knew it would be really hard as you'd have to get special vegan cheese and other products so im just a lactovegetarian. i still eat cheese and sometimes eggs, although i try to eat eggs as little as possible! its still good to eat just vegetarian, it doesnt exactly hurt cows to milk them and stuff so why not drink milk and eat cheese. so yes its ok to be just vegetarian. just make sure to eat all the right foods. nuts, vegetables ect..
oh and also check ingrediants in foods before eating them because theres sometimes flavourings where you wouldnt think you'd find them!
the only thing i miss is gravy!!
mmm! =[

It is a big contradiction to consume dairy or eggs if you are vegetarian for animal rights but just worry about being veg for now.

For now you can do your best to experiment and learn to make good vegan food until you move out on your own. It is very honorable of you to do what you can when most others would tell you to make no change at all.

I'm vegetarian and not vegan. I probably couldn't go vegan, though I would love to, and you are still not supporting killing the animals.

PETA used to do this section in their website, not sure if they still do it, called I CANT BELIEVE IT'S VEGAN... and it's a list of all of the regular consumer products which are vegan, by accident usually... check it out... you can be vegan, just remember to take your vitamins.

Well, i would think that the way the animals are kept and herded would be worse then the actual killing of the animals... (they are treated pretty badly, the chickens and the cows. and the feed they eat is terrible!) so i think only eating eggs and wearing leather and drinking milk would be just as bad.

Before you make any choices, make sure its one you can keep for life. I know a girl that went veggie to piss her mom off, and now she's paying for it as an adult, she gets voilently ill whenever she even looks at beef (although she built up her body to handle chicken and pork so far...)
