I've recently found out that I have a ejection systolic murmur of the heart, which radiates to the carotid. Does anyone else have this and what does it mean? What is the treatment and what are the long term effects of it if left untreated. Also if it can be heard within the neck does this mean it is more serious. I have had a echocardiogram but do not go back to the hospital until January. I would be grateful for any advice on this....

Look online to BEGIN to learn about heart murmurs.
Systolic murmur is heard in or transmitted to the neck because of turbulent (not straight line) blood flow.
Systolic murmur is usually caused by scarred or insufficient Aortic valve.

Ejection systolic murmur - also known as or related to crescendo-decrecendo systolic murmur, harsh ejection systolic murmur. Ejection systolic murmurs occurs due to the defects in aortic or semilunar valves. The murmur is due to turbulence of the blood flow. If it due to aortic stenosis (narrowing of the valve), It can still cause unexpected death with little warning after symptoms develop.
Consult your cardiologist.

your murmur is caused by something creating turbulence in the blood as it is pushed out from the heart. It will require an angio cath to find out exactly what. I would not be too concerned as the doctor is willing to wait until next month to see you again.
