I was recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic.
The other day My blood sugar count was 6.9 just before I went to bed (a little high) and when I got up next morning after complete fast it was 7.5.
Should it do that if I hadn't eaten ? and why would it do that?

I have heard it called the "Morning Effect". It bothers some of us and not others. I meet every few months with about 10 people and our doctor. This subject comes up often. The only thing I can do that helps a little bit for me is to eat a few (5 or 6) Ritz crackers with a slice of cheese before I go to bed. All I can suggest is to experiment with some different foods for snacks at night then check your blood in the morning.

Good luck and don't be afraid to experiment. Diabetes seems to effect everyone differently. By taking control of your own diet you are the boss. Personally I would rather have diabetes than something I have no control over. At least we can adjust our diets.

The blood sugar count can go up if there's a lack of insulin effect. It can do so as the liver can release stored sugar (through glycogenolysis) or produce new sugar from stored amino acides (gluconeogenesis).

this is normal in diabetics...it might be a result of hormones fluctuation in the body while you are sleeping.

this condition is called Nocturnal Hyperglycemia in Diabetics.

you can avoid it by having a small dose of mixtard insulin before or at bedtime.

best wishes
