Try an OTC cough med. If that does not help, than it is her asthma, call her physician. My child's asthma doc tells me to double their steroid inhalant when they get the dry hacking cough and it helps.

Does she have any other symptoms? Or is it just the dry cough? No wheezing or mucus build up? There can be many different causes for a dry cough, from just plain dry air to whooping cough (don't get too worried about it yet).
Are you saying that she does have asthma? It is unclear in your question.
The best thing to do for a cough is actually Mullein tea. The mullein plant has been used to calm coughs for centuries successfully. You can buy mullein tea from your local health food store or online at http://www.iherb.com (not affiliated, we just use them). Steep for 5-8 minutes and add 1/4 tsp of honey (local honey is best - especially if any possible allergies).
My kids love mullein tea and it works wonders for every cough, respiratory infection, etc. We even used it when my fully vaccinated daughter contracted whooping cough (why we no longer vaccinate). The MDs misdiagnosed the WC as asthma and none of their cough remedies worked. The mullein, on the other hand, was VERY effective.
There are potentially other things, including homeopathic remedies you can use to address the cough, but more info would be needed about any other symptoms, does she have asthma, etc.

Take her off all dairy for a couple of weeks and see if it improves. The human body does not digest milk properly because it lacks the enzymes. And milk does cause mucus.

same thing would happen to me when I was a kid
( still does actually) usually when it gets cold outside, any sporting activity,
or if i get super excited or if smoke is nearby.
I recommend getting a nebulizer
and using that...
