Personally, I believe it's morally wrong to eat the dead flesh of animals. However, I have noticed that meat eaters attempt to hide their guilt by calling it a personal choice. I guess if someone ate your kids, that would be a personal choice? It is laughable some of the excuses meat eaters will come up with to try and justify the murder of innocent animal beings.

Spider, if you eat chicken and fish, you are morally wrong. You are paying someone to murder chicken and fish. Do you have any idea the suffering they go through to stuff your face? Animal flesh is just passed through your body as waste feces anyway. Very little nutrients is absorbed. Please stop eating chicken and fish.

Ginny Jin, obviously you are a meat eater. Your reply is a typical reply from someone who is in denial.

No it is not morally wrong to not eat them! You're so close-minded. Animals are not and never will be on the same level as humans. Why give them rights? God put animals on this planet for us to eat...just like he put plants on the planet for us to eat. Our body can only function properly with certain nutrients in the right amounts. Meat is part of that. What's immoral about wanting to be healthy? Nothing! Plants are alive also. They are living. Oh I guess you can't eat anything now! Meat stimulates the brain anyway...I think you could use a steak!
And why the hell are you so barbaric as to compare a child to an animal? My gosh, what has the world come to? Why would one eat their kid?' I just had a steak yesterday for supper...tonight I think I'll go eat a kid.' You're stupid to use that example! It's also personal choice to not eat meat...It' can also be narcisitic in a few ways... 'I'm better than everyone else; I don't eat meat because I'm so "enlightened"; I think I'm going to go post my thoughts so everyone can know how I feel'
As for justification: Go to a mirror, open you mouth, and look at the sharp canine teeth you have. Do you know what those are for? Meat! they are for eating meat! Our flatter teeth are for plants. And if we weren't meant to eat meat we would probably have a hard time eating it. People have eaten it since the beginning of time. There are cave paintings suggesting animals being killed for meat.

I don't think the point of being vegetarian/vegan is whether our bodies have been designed for meat or the fact we have canine teeth. At least for me, what I'm up against is meat industry and the way animals are treated and slaughtered. My body can digest meat ok, but it can also digest vegetables where I get my protein and nutrients from to live a happy healthy animal friendly life.
It's a choice we can make not to be egocentric to do all that harm to an animal just because it tastes good.

Please don't ask a question like this if you are not willing to respect other people's opinions. This is a forum for all of us to learn from each other, not to just vent our personal issues. If you want us to respect your opinion, respect ours.
I am a vegetarian/mostly vegan however, I say it is not morally wrong to eat animals. The bible states that man was given dominion over the earth and also states which animals are "clean" meats and which ones are not. Interestingly enough, it has been proven many times over that the "clean" meats are better health wise than those deemed "unclean". Whether you are a Believer or not, the Bible is typically used to determine what is moral or immoral. While I do feel that a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle if handled correctly is the way to optimum health, I have no problem with meat eaters. God himself said certain meats were okay so who are we to argue?

nope.. its not, unless of course you have made a different choice. if you decide to become a vegetarian for animal issues then you eating meat would be hypocritical and sufficient cause for guilt complexes.
I don't see stating that its personal choice as any way of hiding my guilt.. primarily because I in my books there is nothing to feel guilty about.
what ever floats your boat., I have no wish to have an exclusively Vegetarian diet, nor do I have an exclusively meat diet.
I'd be lost without some meats.. especially bacon, but thats another matter.
Some food stuffs are rich in some required components some in others.. mixing and matching a balanced diet is medically the best way forward. banning specific food groups is just plain daft.
it ain't murder, in the UK, with the sole exception of Halal & Kosher livestock animals are killed humanely, and handled as humanely as possible. To me Halal & Kosher are barbaric practises and should not be allowed in the UK, we should ban any food imports of food products which don't meet UK legislation.
I don't seek to ram my beliefs down your throat, so why do you persist in making silly statements then big up your life choices and belittle others. Life is about personal choices, about the decisions we make, the way we lead our lives.
if you wish to ..."Mark J, I am emailing someone regarding your comment right now and I am also going to report you."..., I'd be interested top hear in what way you think I have infringed the Yahoo term of service, as to whether you email someone right now, or next week who cares..... at the end of the day its opinion. If you don't like people responding to your hectoring then fine.... don''t start slinging the mud, and don't start hectoring others on how to live their lives.
Many people may see the same incident, but if they recount that incident at a later date its highly likely that the stories will all be slightly different.. that doesn't make any one person wrong, or any one person right, just people applying their own experience knowledge and intellect. It matters not that you are a vegetarian, or I'm not.. we are all human beings, we should respect others beliefs, we should culture the differences between each other.. after all its that that makes us truly unique, truly individual. we shouldn't belittle somebody just because they do not share the same beliefs as us, we should not try to coerce people into our beliefs because we 'know' we are right. lead by example and others may follow, lead by diktat and others will ignore you.

I am a vegetarian and I disagree with the consumption of animals, but just because I feel this way doesn't mean that it is the right way. You'll never reach out to anybody if you already and convert them if you have this attitude! You can't judge meat eaters and then snap back when they judge you back - is that right?
You can't expect everybody to do what YOU believe is right - life doesn't work that way. I've learned to respect others decisions, just as they should respect my decision to become a vegetarian. Double standards don't get anyone anywhere deary!

OK i am honest enough to admit yes i eat meat, but the difference is we own a small holding, and do our own meat, the animals are kept in top condition, and given love and respect, we have a breeding stock that live till they die of natural causes but we do breed for meat, we won't buy any meats in shops as we do not know where it comes from or how it has been reared, and although we eat meat we still believe in treating the animals with respect. you have strong views about this and that is your right but it is not fair to cast judgements on people for their choices, i respect the fact that you have chosen to not eat the flesh of dead animals but it would make you a better person if you just excepted people for who they are whether they eat meat or not, we try to do right by our animals and at least we are trying to make things better but in all honesty i like meat and will carry on eating it, there is no need for excuses as i admit i eat meat but at the end of the day it is personal choice to eat meat, i respect you for your choice not to eat meat, and it is a subject that you have passion in, but not all meat eaters are murdering savages, we are people to, hope you find what you are looking for in your answers, best of luck, hope you have a great Christmas.

I'm sure you've asked this question before, with pretty much the same reaction from people. Be prepared for the troll insults.
I don't think people who eat meat are immoral. It bothers me if an animal is made to unnecessarily suffer in order to become food. You may turn around and say "but killing is making the animal suffer", and that's when we hit a grey area of the entire debate. People are split on this one and nothing that either side can say or do will change the other sides view.
At the end of the day, it is their choice. You can rant and rave all you want about the immorality of it all and that these people are in denial, but that's not going to change it. You need to be more tolerant. I'm not saying you have to like it, just deal with it.
Sorry, if this is not the answer you wanted to hear. I don't think it's right to judge and label people because they don't agree with your ethics/beliefs. People don't need a Hilter-Vegan telling them that they're wrong and should "repent" their immorality.

AGREED
i realised many many years ago that eating meat is sick
i just don't understand the allure of rotting flesh!
seems a bit wrong.
we're told so much in society : "VEGETARIANS ARE HIPPIES. ITS NORMAL TO EAT MEAT." but i just feel that giving up meat makes you have a cleaner conscience.
Nobody and no animal will every die as a result of my hunger.
And I'll be damned if I'll pay someone money for slaughtering an innocent, unknowing little creature.
ps- for the one that said we're designed to be omnivores woh indulge in meat...you'd know what we're designed for because you're God right? pah

No, it is not morally wrong to eat animals.
Animals are below us in the food chain, and nature designed us to hunt and eat them.
Now, though, 'we' mass farm them, and creat more wastage than we do food, and I do feel that that is morally wrong, so I do not eat meat. As a modern human, I know plenty other ways to ensure I take a healthy balanced diet.
I see nothing wrong with people eating meat, but feel it is only 'OK' when they have caught / hunted for the meat themselves.

Nope. Its in our design and make up to eat animals going all the way back to before the stone age.
I can understand that you would have a problem with modern methods of meat farming and mechanized slaughter that goes on in slaughter houses because I understand that it aint pretty. But slaughter houses are businesses that are responding to demand with supply. The higher the population, the higher the demand for them all to be fed, and like it or not. We dont all want to survive on vegetables alone.
From a personal point of view, I like meat. Its good for me, I dont feel guilty that an animal dies so that I eat. Its the way of the world and all the placard waving in the world wont alter that fact. I shall be eating my meat based meals until the day I die.
