I have been the doctor and asked for a diabetes test but she just looked at me and said I don't think you're diabetic but how could she assume that by just looking at me?
i am having a blood test in 2 weeks but is it likely that my symptoms are caused by diabetes?

Sounds like similar symptoms, but you may have a blood disorder. It's hard to say. You dont specify your lifestyle or age group. Even the doc can only speculate until the test results are back.

You can have diabetes tests at Boots, I think... though even then, you'd need a GP to determine for sure.

My best friends 3 year old little boy was just diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It's a simple blood test but I don't think you should wait for 2 weeks to get it done! You may really need some attention now. Otherwise you could become a lot more sick!
When my friend told me the symptoms her son was having I googled them and diabetes is what pulled up. She made an appointment that day for him and he had to be hospitalized right away.
Like you, when they went in and she told them what she thought it was and the nurse looked at her like she was crazy. I think if my friend didn't specifically ask for that test they would not have given her son the correct treatment.
I also have heard another story where a 7 year old girl was wrongly diagnosed with allergies and different things when it was diabetes. She went a long time without the help she needed.
Go get tested asap.
I will pray that you don't have it. Type 1 can be a lot of work and it is life changing.
Best wishes to you.

I've been type 1 diabetic for 16 years and the symptoms you describe certainly point to diabetes but that's not conclusive. The longer you wait the more problems that could be encountered. If you live in the UK you can go to any Lloyds pharmacy and ASDA I believe and get a blood test there and then who would be in a better position to advise you from the results. If not in the UK then go back to your doctor and request a urine sample to be taken, it's quicker than a blood test.

sounds suspicious to me but there other possibilities too such as problems with your kidneys. You are having a blood test in two weeks so don't panic. See what that shows then see how you feel.

To get diabetic neuropathy (weird pains in your feet) you would normally have had out of control type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes for years. It doesn't happen overnight. Weird feelings in your arms aren't classic diabetic neuropathy.

If you have had these symptoms for a while, waiting 2 weeks for your blood test isn't drastic. Besides, your doctor doesn;t seem overly worried, otherwise she could have asked for an urgent test, so don't worry. I know that is easy to say...I remember how worried how I was when I was waiting for my diagnosis. It is worrying to think that you might have something as serious as diabetes. Meanwhile I suggest that, for the next couple of weeks, you stay away from sugary foods and drinks to stop your blood sugars from rising any more than they are.

Development of symptoms
In type 1 diabetes, symptoms tend to develop rapidly, over a couple of weeks, and are more severe. In type 2 diabetes, symptoms develop slowly and are usually milder.

Common symptoms of both types of diabetes are:

increased thirst
passing water frequently, especially at night
tiredness and fatigue
loss of weight
genital itching or recurrent thrush

In type 1 diabetes, less common symptoms are:

cramps
constipation
blurred vision
recurrent skin infections

In type 2 diabetes, symptoms may go unnoticed for years

In type 2 diabetes, symptoms may go unnoticed for years, and only when complications of diabetes - such as foot ulceration or blurred vision occur - is diabetes diagnosed. Remember that all the symptoms may not be present. Whenever any of these symptoms arise, it's important to be tested for diabetes.

Diagnosing diabetes
Diabetes may be detected in a routine urine test where excess glucose is present. In type 1 diabetes, people often develop symptoms over a few weeks. They may feel thirsty all the time and need to urinate a lot, and they may feel tired and lose weight.

A blood test that measures the level of glucose in the blood will confirm whether or not the underlying cause is diabetes.

Those are common symptoms of diabetes. If I were you, I'd demand that your doctor do both a fasting blood test and a hemoglobin A1C to determine if you do have diabetes. You can also buy a blood glucose meter and test your blood yourself in the meantime.

I went to the doctor with similar symptoms and was diagnosed as a diabetic. The other symptom I had was blurred vision. I started wearing reading glasses. I attributed some of my symptoms to getting older. Maybe that is the case with you but you should get it checked out. I would go see a different doctor.

It sounds as if you could be, my boyfriend was diagnosed earlier this year, his symptoms were the same as yours, constant thirst which you cant quench, getting up during the night for drinks and a pee, constant peeing, feeling down, tired and catching all the colds. I sent him to the doctor and he was diagnosed straight away, he was rushed straight up the hospital as his levels were very bad, so I suggest you dont wait any longer, go to a doctor and demand a test, it only takes 2 mins to do and is not painful. I think the Boots chemists do a free test too. Definately get it checked asap

Go to the Laboratory and ask for the Urinalysis examination. If you are diabetic your urinalysis examination will show a positive result. If your result shows positive glucose (sugar). Have it confirmed thru fasting blood sugar.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.
