Cool mist vaporizer. Hot steam breeds bacteria and cool mist just humidifies the air which is what you need. My husband for almost 20 yrs woke up every winter morning with a sore throat, we had a baby, got a cool mist vaporizer and the morning sore throat is a thing of the past.

Hi, I have the same problem. About a few days ago I'd wake up with a mild sore throat, then it would be gone. Then as the days went on, I'd wake up with a more painful throat, it would last a bit longer throughout the day. Now I wake up with a very sore throat, and it would get a little better after a while but it's still sore. Basically I've got a throat infection. Maybe that's what you have as well. Take some antibiotics.

Sounds like heat is running at night and is drying your throat out. If you can turn your heat down a couple of degrees at night so it's not running as much. And get a vaporizer. Also, try using saline wash before bed may help keep everything in your sinus area good and moist all night to help prevent the sore throat.
good luck.

Don't listen to the cold mist answers!!
Read this article:
Humidifiers and vaporizers add moisture to the air, making it less drying to your mouth, throat, and nose. A humidifier produces a cool mist, and a vaporizer puts out hot steam.
Cool mist from a humidifiers are comfortable to breathe. **HOWEVER** humidifiers are noisy, *produce particles that may be irritating to some people*, and *need to be cleaned and disinfected regularly*. This is **especially important for people who have mold allergies**!!!!
A vaporizer's hot steam does not contain any irritating particles, and you can add medications such as Vicks VapoRub to ease breathing. Steam may feel good when you have a cold, but the hot water can burn anyone who overturns or gets too close to the vaporizer.

You know when you take a hot shower it clears you sinuses, a hot steam vaporizer will have the same effect as you sleep, but no bacteria or mold & mildew! Doctor recommended!
You need to run a hot steam vaporizer, put soothing Vick's salve in the reservoir in the room were you sleep. Makes 90% difference. Winter heating dries out & irritates our mucus membranes. You've probably developed environmental allergies like everybody else has. Or maybe your catching a bug. Raise the head of you bed 6 to 10 inches, get a hot steam vaporizer, use some Vick's salve & an ionizer or hepa-filter would make your house healthier...
Do not get a cold mist humidifier it gets everything in the room soaking wet! Curtains, floor, carpet, bedding, walls, that causes MOLD & MILDEW , that's more damage than good. Nasal strips might help as well.

Could be all sorts of problems...whatever it is going on your throat is obviously becoming irritated throughout the night. Perhaps your furnace needs a filter change, you could have a little bit of sleep apnea going on, or you might just need to add a steam humidifier to your room at night. Also you could try using some breath right strips on your nose.

Same thing happened to me. My doctor recommended a humidifier. It's because of the bacteria in the air that you inhale throughout the night.

I had that a few months ago, very annoying.
I found drinking tea with honey before bed helped.
Also, drinking more water throughout the day helped.
