We recently did an "Army" theme party for our 11 year old. His Dad was in the army, and he's really into that right now. What was nice about this theme was that there are no commercial 'characters' associated with it, so it wasn't just an advertisement for a toy company. Camo accessories (plates, favor bags, etc.) are readily available, and I got a lot of help for this online re games. Just type "Army birthday theme" into Google, and you'll get tons of ideas for activities. It was a lot of fun for the boys, and it was fun for the Dads, too, especially if they were in the military. My husband even wore his old uniform (at least the parts that still fit!). Usually he pretty much stayed out of the boys parties, but he actually ran this one, just like a drill sargeant! The boys just ate it up. One note; this party was an all boy party. He's at the stage where girls are icky; if you will have girls, too, you might tone down the drill sargeant bit. It's my experience that girls of that age don't see the fun of having orders barked at them ("You WILL eat cake!! You WILL eat it NOW!!!!).
