How can a bear be a vegetarian?

There are different kinds of bears. Most of them are omnivores. Polar bears are carnivores as far as I know. Maybe some of them are herbivorous; but I don't know enough about bears to say for certain.

Koalas eat nothing but eucalyptus leaves, but they aren't really bears--they are marsupials (like kangaroos and opossums).

I think Chinese pandas are herbivores; I'm pretty sure they eat mostly bamboo shoots. I could be wrong, but I don't think pandas are true bears either. I saw an animal called the "lesser panda" or "red panda" at a zoo and it looks more like a cross between a fox and a raccoon than a bear.

Bears are omnivorous by design. They are able to live on both plant and animal foods. But depending on their habitat and what food sources are available, they can be almost completely carnivorous, such as the polar bear, or completely vegetarian, such as the panda bear. Most bears however eat a diet that is approx 70% plant based with a large portion coming from berries and leaves.

I think it is possible that on rare occasions a bear may choose not to eat meat and therefore be classed as a vegetarian but this does go against all their natural urges.

They are not. They are omnivorous,
They eat Fish, Carrion, Rodents, Insects..human's garbage as well as plants, berries etc.

Who said they were? They're omnivores - they eat meat and plants (mostly berries).
