What about the micro organisms in the dirt , and the poor amoebas in the water , poor parasites .
You eat the fruit ,plant the seed ,the seed grows a tree and the tree bears fruit. Its a cycle. You dont eat the fruit ,the fruit rots the seed molts and wont grow , so now the tree is dead and the fruit never get to live ..you killed them by not eating the fruit.

There are SO MANY options for you. this is such a broad question I will just direct you to a couple good vegetarian cookbooks: Moosewood, Veganomicon. Look at ethnic cuisines, Indian, ethiopian, veggie sushi. If all you do is eat the traditional american meat and potatoes diet without the meat you will of course wither away, but there are countless ways to nourish yourself without meat. beans, nuts and dairy are your new friends, watch you dont eat too much soy, there have been studies to show it can have negative effects if consumed in too large quantities...

---I am a potato, so I dont know how I could be exploiting myself. If you really dont want to exploit anything, try not breathing, its the only way. If you are like me and believe that all existence is exploitation you will just learn to accept it and eat meat like any other omnivore on the planet, its probably the most healthy option out there.

Well I'm in a suituation just like that too. I decided to become a vegetarian about a month ago and I'm still alive!! How about broccoli and spinach? They're good sources of iron and if you're cutting out meat from your diet you'll still need iron. Eggs, if you choose to eat them, are a very good source of protein. Also try smoothies if you're not into eating a lot of fruit! They're sooo nice!

You have to be sure you collect the minerals yourself. The stuff you get in the store contains bugs sometimes.
