-flint (for fire starting)
-a good pot
-an enamel mug
-knife
-boots
-rope/twine
-spoon/fork
-toothbrush
-knowledge of edible plants
-fishing gear (hook, line, fly)
-journal
-camera/film
-warm clothes
-ax/hatchet

There isn't really a 'short list' for a year long camping trip, but I would suggest you at least stay in a cabin or some kind of shelter, not a tent. And just anything you would bring camping normally, just a heck of a lot more of it.

Just a few things that may help a Leather-man style multi tool, and a military style entrenching tool. These can be very valuable and are easy to carry.
