To the guy above me . Your math is wrong .It's not 70 miles from the head of the Hermit Trail to Havasu it's probably closer to 150 -160
Do the math
It's 8.5 miles from Hermits Rest to the Boucher /Tonto jct.
Boucher Rapids are river mile 96 .5
Elves Chasm is River mile 116
River mile distance is 19.5 miles
Across the Platform it's 30 miles to Bass and about 8-10 to Elves depending upon how much you mess up your navigation
So 19.5 river miles becomes about 40 over land miles a 2:1 ratio
Boucher Rapids is RM 96.5
Havasu is RM 157
61 RMs = 122 very optimistic trail miles not including the approaches and the time that is lost playing the losing and finding and losing trail game
I'm going to stick with my estimate of 150+ miles
Can you hike it ?Yes but the very few that would do it would start at havasu and work their way upriver. You really should be a very experienced hiker to even think about doing this and somewhere on your hiking resume should be desert experience
Once you get downriver from Boucher the Canyon
gets really empty and really lonely and
you become very aware of the fact that you can't screw up because rescue is basically impossible
When I did the Bass>Elves >Tonto >out via Boucher loop I didn't see anybody for 7 days
Edit :To the guy that's now above , Sorry ,when I originally posted this you were somewhere else.

It's a LONG hike from the south rim in the National Park, with some of it cross country. Most people do the 10 mile hike from Hualapai Hilltop down the the falls.

The Hermit Trail does not connect up with the tribe's trail (and neither does the Tonto Trail, which ends at Elve's Chasm).

The West Rim is usually cheaper than the south rim because the west rim is closer. If you plan on going by bus here are some things to consider. Both have beautiful views, west has the sky walk which isn't all that and south is the national park. Total tour times are 11 hours to west and 13 hours to south. Total drive time is about 3 to 3 and a half hours west and 5 hours for south rim each way with only 3 hours spent at the canyon. You spend more time driving to the south rim so keep that in mind. By helicopter you are looking at shortest tour about 2.5 hours to 6 hours depending on if you land and have lunch, walk around, etc. It only takes 35 mins each way to get there by helicopter. So by bus go for west rim, by helicopter, either is nice and enjoyable.

You can take the Hermit trail,if you want to walk 70 miles! I have done the trail to Havasu falls. It is an advanced trail. 10 miles down through indian land. You gan get to Havasu Falls on the trail by the city of Peach Springs off old route 66 out of Kingman. It is on the West Grand Canyon, a long way from the South Rim. The walk is well worth it. The water down at the falls is beautiful, Enjoy!

I did that hike years ago. It's a 10 mile hike, NOT 70, down the Hermit Trail. They do have a mule train that can take your camping gear down & up. You need to make reservations for that.
