It started with a post-nasal drip and bad sore throat. It continued with sinus mucus and drainage. Then slight fever, got into my left ear (and hurt), some body aches, generally not feeling energetic or well. Seems worse overnight and early morning then better as the day wears on. Now it seems to be moving into my chest. Still have a cough, some post-nasal drip but heaviness in my chest and don't feel well at all. It is now about day 9-10. The mucus (I cough up) is mainly whitish (just slightly greenish) and was thick this morning.

Has anyone else had it (it seems to be going around here in NC). How long did it take to get well? At what point should I see a Dr? (I'm not a believer in taking anti-biotics for virus or just for the heck of it).

I'm taking pseudophed, dextromethrophan, guaifenesin, and OJ.

Thanks! (cough, cough)

you should go and see your doctor...you don't want this to go to phenmonia...sleep in up right position to keep the fluid in your chest circulating, once you lay down it pools and that's why you feel so crappy in the morning. You may have had a sinus infection to start and then once you had the post nasal drip it turned into a chest cold. but to be on the safe side and to rule out a virus go and see the doctor.

This doesn't sound like just a virus any longer and you can't take antibiotics for a virus anyway, they have no effect!
My husband had this (in the UK) recently and by the time he actually asked to go to the doctor he was so unwell he stayed in bed all day until the appointment. Turned out he had a lung infection as it had progressed from an upper respiratory infection and made its way down the left lung. He was on very strong antibiotics for 7 days and only began to feel better after two days on them. GO TO THE DOCTOR AND GET SOME ANTIBIOTICS! Stop being a martyr and get some help with this.

I'm in MA and soooooooo many people I know have the same thing. I've actually had the cough for six weeks now and it's still going strong. I wouldn't bother with the doctor as they won't give you anything for a virus. My doctor told me that she recommends Mucinex and I think it's the best thing I've used. I've been also using a vaporizer at night which seems to soothe the cough. Get well soon! (cough, cough)

It is going around here in Indiana too. Whenever your mucous gets colorful (yellow or green) it means one of two things. One, this is the mucous that sat there over night and it is just "old" or Two, you have an infection which probably require some antibiotics to get rid of it. My whole family keeps passing it around and around. I am about ready to hang up a sign. "No Kissing until everyone is Better"

Good Luck, I hope you feel better soon. (cough, cough back at cha)

I am a doctor and basically after 5 to 7 days you should see a doctor. It is that time of year when things go around. Supportive care with decongetants and tylenol, ibuprofen fluids first. If no success, see your doc.
