Broken Heart syndrome aka Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a sudden weakening of the myocardium, or heart muscle, brought on by extreme emotional stress. Like a divorce or death. It imitates a heart attack, but leaves no lasting damage. Yes, it can be deadly, but in most cases patients make a quick recovery and normal function is restored to the heart in a week or two.
