The one with the lowest prices on the gear you want, most reasonable shipping costs, and best return policy. Sometimes REI fits that bill, but sometimes I can get the same gear cheaper at Campmor, Backcountry Gear, Prolitegear and other places. Getting the quality item you want at the best price is more important than which store it comes from.

Try REI, Gander Mountain, or Campmor. Some Dick's Sporting Goods have a good selection of gear. Some only have a good selection of clothes and golf gear.

I hate to say this but Campmor is probably the best when it comes to selection, pricing and customer service. I have referred thousands of customers to them for items that I just do not carry in my stores camping department or that can't be found at a local competitor to me, Bass Pro or Gander Mountain.

Gander MTN has good stuff reasonably priced.
Cabela's has good stuff, but you have to hunt(ha) for the bargains..they also have some way overpriced stuff.
Scheels has some weekend warrrior stuff, but the staff there knows nothing.
