There are different kinds of herpes.
If a man has cold sores (oral herpes) then there should be NO reason why he can't have healthy children.
If a man has genital herpes, there is also NO reason why he can't have healthy children. However, it IS possible for the man to pass genital herpes to any woman he has sex with, even if condoms are used. If the woman contracts genital herpes then she can pass it on to the baby during birth if she is having an outbreak during the delivery. This is VERY rare though and can be completelty avoided by having a C-section delivery.
But, having genital herpes has NO affect on having children what-so-ever. Genital herpes does NOT cause sterility or cause a person to become infertile like other STDs can.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.
Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

Ok.
If a guy who gets the occasional cold sore on his mouth had a baby with a girl who didn't happen to get cold sores on her mouth from time to time had a baby, would it be healthy? It sounds daft to ask this, but it is the same thing.
Herpes, in one of it's two forms, is carried by at least 80% of the population. Cold sores are caused by herpes. And no, it isn't a 'different' type of herpes. Half of genital herpes cases are caused by the exact same type people have on their mouths. I have this type genitally.
One in four women having babies and one in five men becoming fathers has herpes.
Herpes, unlike something like HIV, is a virus that is not passed down from parent to child, it is not a blood-borne virus, and the father having it does not affect conception or childbirth in any way.
When the baby catches it from the mother (which is incredibly rare by the way) it is not in the womb but as the baby passes through the vaginal canal. C-sections remove this risk entirely.
Herpes in the parent has no bearing on whether the child will be healthy or not. It is simply a skin disorder, is not passed parent to child in the blood and is not genetic. It is normal for two parents with herpes to have healthy children without herpes. My sister, who has herpes, has three - all born by vaginal delivery.

Your children should be just fine!
If your lady has gential herpes, there is a 0.1% chance that it could be passed onto your children, but it's rare nowadays for that even to occur. If she has an active outbreak during the time she is in labor, then the doctor will opt for a C-section.
The chance the child could possibly contract herpes is if your lady would contract herpes during the late stages of her pregnancy, then it is a higher risk.

my husband and i both have herpes and our 3 year old does not. We both had the herpes when i got prego. The only way you could give it to your baby is if you have an out break during delivery and if so they would do a c-section

i have it and my 6 month old is clean. if the girls does NOT have it, then there is no way the baby is going to catch it in birth. Dad can not give it to baby threw conception. (sperm) because HSV is a skin to skin contact STD.
now here is something you need to think about. if you get cold sores, which are herpes (HSV) too. you really need to make sure you are not kissing the baby when you have an out break. that is one way to spread it to your baby.
if by chance the mom catches it before the baby is born, don't worry you can still have a healthy child naturally. she just needs to get checked right before the birth and make sure she is not having an active outbreak. she can even take meds leading up to the birth to make sure of it. the baby can be checked once it arrives for piece of mind.

If the girl were pregant with someone else's children, the children will be fine. If it's you who impregnates her, you may give HER herpes and she could pass it on to the children as they are being born. Speak to a doctor or an advisor at Planned Parenthood.
