Don't give heed to the old wives' tales of dying from a broken heart, what do the doctors say? It really is physically impossible to die from a broken heart, that does affect the spirit, moreso. Remember, the spirit and body are 2 separate individuals, the mind can affect the bodys response to stress, heartache, tension, etc. Like when someone is always stressed due to 'unknown causes' the gastric system produces excess acids and the person develops ulcers, most disagree, however only a bacterium called H. Pylori is responsible. My point being, alot of old beliefs are now discounted with advances in medical technology. You can however, take measures to relieve the mental pain like writing your poetry, talking to friends, taking warm bubble baths, drinking tea, visting your mother or father, etc. Chances are your heart will not abruptly stop from a broken heart, but remember the mind, brain, soul are all interconnected in keeping everything running functional, even the slightest disruption can cause problems 5 years down the road, take care of yourself now, while the risks are minimal.

I guess if you take the romance out of the equation then yes. If your heart was literally broken it would kill you. If it was emotionally broken the stress could bring on some sort of heart attack or heart related stress! If you were emotionally broken you might not eat properly, be more inclined to slip into darkness. So indirectly you could say your broken heart had killed you or at least had the potential to! How many tragic heroines or heroes have thrown themselves into mortal peril because of a broken heart!

Not physically possible in that way, but depression CAN physically harm you. Seek help offline from a qualified professional if it lasts too long.

My unofficial scrip: Junk food in just enough quantity to make you feel better, but not too much, can't have ya feeling worse. A couple of good tearjerker movies/songs/whatever and finally burning an effigy (lifesize replicas are best) of the one who hath broken your heart. Then work on the poetry, cause depressed or not, it's pretty good.....and good luck, life gets better.......

There is actually a condition called "broken heart syndrome" that can be fatal. I think it is something like a heart attack. For some unexplainable reason, the heart just quits. It's called broken heart syndrome because it happens to people when their significant other dies... I haven't done any research on it or anything, just heard of it...

I don't think your heart will kill you this time, but I feel for ya! Good luck, hope the pain eases with time...

I witnessed a broken heart and what happened will ever after affect me for the rest of my life.

My grandparents are sitting somewhere watching a sunrise on a beach together. Listening to the waves and the cries of seagulls. Having a picnic on the beach.

Anyway, I digress, to me a body can die from a broken heart.

I know you loved her Grandpa, I just didn't know how very much.

It's my understanding that Purgatory will bless your mother. It's not like a step up from hell, it is her preparation for being in the presence of God. And time doesn't mean anything in the next life so don't think at all of her sitting there marking time. She lives in the eternal present now. What is in my heart is that your mother is in the care of a God who loved her and wants what is best for her and who will never stop seeking what is best for her. I know you'll miss your mom for a long time, but please let your heart be at peace about this.

When you feel heart broken its just another way of saying that you feel deprest and yes you can die from it, if you don't get help and your emotions gets out of hand. Sometimes it leads to suicide and other times the person is beyond the point of getting help so they " sorry for saying this" kill others or commonly just hurts other people not because its there intention but because they are mentaly ill. There is however no rule that sais a person can not be helped in such a way that he will be able to return to a normal life again, all things are possible if you believe.

Yes it can. The emotions can affect the body in negative ways and result in serious illness if not actual death.
Long term and/or powerful negative emotions change us physiologically such as the heart rate, the breathing. Persons under strain of loss or sorrow, don't eat right, don't sleep right, don't exercise, spend a lot of time crying (losing sodium and potassium from the body), and become dehydrated.

Not if you let it.

Your poems speak much of great sadness and emotional suffering. You may not have realized it but writing poems with effusion unburdens you. Quite a lot of the emotional steam escapes from the vent of your troubled heart in poetry.

Cmon, broken heart ain't that bad. More severe problems exist with other people in general. Why dwell on it when with time, like others, your puny problem shall also pass. Time heals.

And besides, aren't you enjoying yourself with us people here being around you all the time and answering your questions like crazy?

I found it hard to believe that you would be like this. you are hurt now but you have made many admirers and cheered many people up in the short space of time that I have been on YA. Time is a great healer and really I should know. " better to have loved and lost than not have loved at all" Write about it, this will help the grieving process.
