I would like to know the best and easiest way for a person to convert over to becoming a vegetarian. It is something I would like to do but my body always rebells against me when I try to do it. Can anybody help me with this problem?

Cutting out meat is not usually an overnight process but it can be, if you are concerned enough and looking for a drastic change. Everyone is different though but it really depends on when you want the change to happen. For example, here is how I did it:

Not big on seafood so no problem there
12/97 - cut out chicken
Between 12/97 and Spring 98 - gave up everything else

I had some problems with giving up ham/cheese croissants at BK but eventually got passed it. Ham was the last meat I cut out.

I also take several vegetarian supplements including Vitamin B12.

Good Luck to you.

I would say to do more research so you are clearer on the benefits of vegetarianism. If you make a list of your top ten reasons and carry it around with you, that might help. When a craving hits, just look at the list and remind yourself why you're doing it.

Start slowly if it helps. Eat normally, except take a side-dish portion of any meaty main dishes and make the vegetables your main dish. Try fake meats if you want to (experiment to find one that you like) and vegetarian versions of your favorite foods (vegetarian chili, vegetarian pasta sauce, etc). A lot of the flavor can be duplicated without the meat if you use good herbs and spices. You could try starting off eating one totally vegetarian meal a day, then move up to two, then three. Or you could do one totally vegetarian meal a week, then add days. You could go whole hog and quit cold turkey (har har) but that can be tricky. Try ethnic foods. Indian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese... you can probably find vegetarian at all of those.

Don't beat yourself up if you mess up. Everything takes time.

I just simply stopped eating meat. I drink a protein shake every morning and take vitamins. Check your grocery store for vegetarian meals. Mine has a section in the freezer with things from "Morning Star Farms." There are lots of products made to look and taste like meat (sausage, bacon, hamburger, etc.) made by them. In some restaurants, it's hard to find a good vegetarian meal. In those places, I usually get salad, baked potato, or even a burger without the meat.

If you wouldn't be against eating a meat substitute that could possibly help you to convert a little easier. I would suggest Morning Star Farms or Boca. They have a variety of choices. Burgers, chile, sausage, breakfast meals. You could also try just eating meat less and less until you finally are eating non at all. Just baby steps to a healthier lifestyle

You might be someone for whom the gradual approach works best. Start by not eating meat two days a week. Once your body and mind are used to that, go to three, then five, then full-time veg. There are numerous meat analogues out there to fool your tastebuds and your mind. You're sure to find some that work for you.

Another gradual approach is also to gradually eliminate animal products one by one from your diet. You can do that, the veg days, or a combination of both.

Good luck!

It's probably your mind rebelling more than your body. Your body can function perfectly well without meat, and I know because I don't eat meat.
I'm a big fan of cold turkey... I mean quitting cold turkey...not eating it.

Pick one day a week to devote to eating meat free, and slowly add more days each week until you've gone a week without eating meat and/or diary and eggs if you're striving to become a vegan. Good luck!

Its all up to you man. I wouldn't become a vegetarian because my body needs the nutrients I get from meat. And meat does taste pretty good. The only part I don't like is knowing that its a dead animal that was cut into little peices.
