Could be vegetarian! First female Beefeater ends centuries-old traditionPublished on September 3rd, 2007 Posted by Smartalix in General Is this an “about time” situation or the end of a noble tradition? Will there be clothing jokes over her new 1,400-pound (Sterling) uniform? The creation of the first female Beefeater is certainly an event of impact, considering that the group has been made up strictly of men for over 500 years. A 42-year-old Scottish woman became the first female “Beefeater” on Monday, taking up her post as a guardian of Britain’s Tower of London. Moira Cameron started duties as a Yeoman Warder after beating five men to secure the coveted position. Today, there are 35 Beefeaters, plus the Chief Yeoman Warder and Yeoman Gaoler. To apply to become a Beefeater, candidates must have earned medals for long service in the armed forces and good conduct. Women can serve in any position that they demonstrate competence in. Everyone should. This is good, not bad, for the Beefeaters.

Hahahahahaha!!!!! Great question! I wouldn't be at all surprised if one or two Beefeaters are vegetarians, it's a pretty common lifestyle these days.

It's amusing in a sad way that so few people got your question. Kinda pathetic so many people aren't more knowledgeable.

I don't think you can really blame people who are not British for not knowing that Beefeaters are the ceremonial guards at the Tower of London, and so not getting this rather lame joke.

EDIT: Ok Trace, at least it's not the animal crackers question; however: http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt=AshaBKT28RaroXUhFWcnyv4jzKIX;_ylv=3?p=beefeaters+vegetarian

**And Meg, I'm a Brit. I'm not sure which I find more depressing; the fact that American kids still learn about antiquated traditions of British royalty in school, or the fact that you consider that knowing about what are essentially tourist guides in fancy dress demonstrates a well-rounded world view and is an important part of the wide range of experiences the world has to offer.

Ha ha! Yes, a vegetarian can be a Beefeater and I am sure they drink it to. If they are into Gin.

At least it wasn't an animal cracker question folks!

Hey Me! yes, some are pretty bad. I guess to make it rhetorical one could ask can a Beefeater be a vegetarian?

I'm surprised that there are so few people who know this brand of Gin.

that was the first thing that popped into my head when I read this question, even before the Tower Guards.

That said, So long as they don't make a rotting zombie, they should be good.

Absolutely a delightful question, Chris!!! LMAO. I just love the comments . . .especially the vehement ones, or the one that is soooooooooooooo "American" ... " don't think you can really blame people who are not British for not knowing" . . .

Not only adding a bit of sorely needed humor to a bunch of boring folks, but really points out the narrowness of their world.

Technically, no. You could call them mostly vegetarian, though. That's what I've had to do since after ten years of being a strict vegetarian, I've started having the occasional steak.
