And why didn't it rain on him when he was done praying?

EDIT: Christian h - why assume I am speaking evil of my neighbor? I'll re-phrase my question to be more precise for you:
Is religion driven by desperation? Attracting desperate people? Would otherwise happy people otherwise come to a thing called god for answers?

Nothing evil in that, just asking about question about motivation.

And for the record, I do not believe there is such a thing as evil.

I think its the easy way out. Telling someone you'll pray for them is saying that well hell I ain't gonna do nothing worth while to help you cause I don't want to, but I'm gonna make you think I really care.

God's time is not our time - it will rain when it is supposed too.

i think the gov praying publically is neither here nor there & shouldn't be an issue. as a Christian it was heartwarming - as an athiets (my neighbor) it was a waste of time but - "whatever".

i don't think it shows desperation equaling motivation TO pray period but to make it public yes. he's trying to get people to have hope. just like those in the service in harms way - there are no athiests in foxholes.

1) Rain was forecast DAYS prior to the "prayer vigil" so it's a moot point. 2) there was not nearly enough rain to do anything remotely constituting relief from the drought, if anything, it was a great big F.U.. 3) The SAME series of storms hit tennessee and ripped the roof off of a baptist church and injured some kids when they were hit with debris and flying glass and did a lot of damage.....too funny, way to pray Governor.

Praying, god, and religion will only you so far. I think it's because he needs to learn to solve his problems rather than beg for help, I believe in God, so I would say God wants him to solve his own problems this time.

If you don't, then you could say he's just some idiot.

Whatever floats your boat.

It will only show that prayer is merely wishful thinking. Of course if it is does rain they will claim god answered their prayer but so far it has not rained and they'll claim god did answer their prayer but not as they wanted it to.

See prayers are nothing more than hogwash and wishful thinking. Backed by cop-out answers when they do not work

It absolutely does, and it didn't rain because the weather patterns don't change just because people pray.

Ask those of us who went through Hurricane Katrina.

Commanded to pray is a privilege? That's the best non-sequitur of the week!

The Governor represent the people that elected him, Christians or not.

What is wrong with you? They haven't had rain in months. Some towns don't have water. Come on.

This was added on Wednesday, November 14th.....His prayers worked! It is raining hard.

It didn't do anything but gain him a lot of votes his next election. You are an idiot if you thought it was actually with the expectation of rain.
