A Remington 36 Grain golden hollow point has a muzzle velocity of 1280 feet per second. The maximum range of this round is 1892.6 yards, fired at an angle of 28 degrees from horizontal.

Maximum EFFECTIVE range is something else entirely, though.

There is no information or any credible record available to determine what is the longest shot fired by a 22 caliber rifle.*

Don't know that there was ever any record of one ever recorded. .22 caliber is popular all over the world but isn't known for any long distance capabilities. The are no long range matches or competitions that utilize the 22 caliber.

I regularly shoot golf ball sized targets at 200 yards with several of my 22 rifles. I'm using a bench of course, and sometimes a spotter, which is usually the guy who's also shooting golf ball sized targets next to me with his 22 rifles.

If 3 or 4 of us just regular guys can hit at 200 yards, there's got to be someone someplace that's hitting 3or even 4 hundred yard targets consistantly.

i guess your talking about a 22 lr dont know of any long range compitions for a 22lr.but me and my brother when we were kids 15 or 16 use to help each other walk then in on trash can lids 3 and 400 yrds grant you it was a hit and miss operation but we got to where we could get close most of the time and hit them enough to be proad of ours alot of the time grant you this had to be on hot sunny days with not much of a breeze but it can be done.takes alot of ammo though.and before any of you guys say any thing we put the lids on the other side of a big pond so we could see where the bullets hit.yess i know this is dangerous but we were 15

I can consistently put every shot from a 10/22 on an 18x18 steel plate at 200-yards. Iron sights. Same with a much smaller 5x5 plate.

I can consistently put most of my shots from a 10/22 on another 18x18 steel plate at 300-yards, also with iron sights.

Its tough, and with any wind you're chance of success just dropped a lot, but it can be done once you compensate for enough bullet drop. The plates on my range make a nice "bing!" when the .22 hits them, even 300-yards. The "ka-splank" of a .308 hitting them is more satisfying however.

I've hit a target at 1100 meters with a .223 (technically a .22) and a spotter. Granted it wasn't dead on, but by god I hit it.
