They raise them and sell them as chicken meat once there growth. It makes no business sense for a business to
a) Firstly let the eggs hatch.
b) Kill them as a chick, when theres money to be made from chicken meat.
I guess as your veg*n the answer you want is the generic answer PETA would want you believe which is there thrown into the blades of a shredder.

Good question. I suppose they kill them and sell them. As far as I understand free range just means that the laying chickens get some time outside of their cages for a certain time period per day. So I don't think they are against raising animals to kill for food.
Or maybe they just purchase female chickens to be the egg layers and don't make any more chicks.

They still toss them like the other hatcheries do.
According to Compassion Over Killing:
"Both battery cage and 'free-range' egg hatcheries kill all male chicks shortly after birth. Since male chicks cannot lay eggs and are different breeds than those chickens raised for meat, they are of no use to the egg industry. Standard killing methods, even among 'free-range' producers, include grinding male chicks alive or throwing them into trash bags and leaving them to suffocate."

They kill them as soon as they can be sexed. They tend to go for pet food.
Many countries use the meat to feed back to the hens.
They used targetted breeding programs and cross-breed various Rhoade Island Reds and Sussex birds to get a higher proportion of hens to cockerals.
Egg layers do not have enough meat to be raised as table birds. Table birds are normally crossed with Orpingtons or Morans to get a larger bird.

Some male chickens are neutered and sold as "capons". These neutered chickens also help raising the chicks. Capons are supposed to be really good chickens.

My personal poultry supplier hacks off their little chicken testicles and raises them as "capons". They grow to be the size of turkeys and are good roasted like one.
