i think the way it is worded is the sins of the father will be "visited" upon the son
hypothetical situation your father rapes a girl you may have trouble with lust. or you may be raped or you could even take up with a girl you like and she was raped as a child and your relationship sucks and things work out where you cant love her nor leave her.
i like the first possibility because it would be a clear example of how you would have the chance to beat your lust thus beating the demon your brought to the world.
not that we are doomed just when our father commits a sin the child will have an issue created by it but also there is another doctrine that i like to associate with it that goes like this it is up to the father to justify the existance of the son and it is up to the son to justify the existance of the father.
doomed is a little extreme for how i saw it when i read but thats me and i hope it will give you a new way to look upon it
peace

It states in The Bible "The sins of The Fathers are visited upon The Children, and The Children's Children"
A modern day interpretation would be: if you do things the way your parents did, then you're going to get the things that your parents got
I don't think we "pay for the sins of our fore fathers", but we do often get pre-judged for them, however, if we see where our fore fathers have been cruel, violent, or whatever their sins were, and we strive to eradicate those traits from our own character (if we have them), we break the chain and eventually we are seen for what we are, and not as a product of our ancestry.

I don't think that we pay for their sins as long as we don't do the same thing again. In other words, if we learned from the mistakes of our forefathers it is like a compensation...
Everyone starts of without sins. We can all take our life into our own hands.

If you are born into a life of criminal activity, then possibly yes. Can we walk away from our parent's sins? I would say yes! However, by the help and grace of our LORD can we walk away, not in our own strength!!!
GOD bless

I do not pray for the sins of anyone who is dead. The Bible is quite clear that you live once, die once and that's your only chance. To pray for the dead would be like praying for a cartoon.

I don't believe it. It sounds rediculious. Why would we be held responsible for something a third party did? Thats not justice.

We confess the sins of our forefathers, because they affect us, but we don't pray for them.
