Hi. Make your own chunky chips by cutting as many potatoes as you like in to large chip shapes then parboil them. Sieve them, place on a baking tray and spray with 'fry light' and oven cook for 30-35 minutes at 450 f or gas 7. You can buy a product called fish-less fish cakes in Holland and Barratt made by realeat. cook these in a frying pan by just spraying them with a little fry light and turn them intermittently . Serve with black pepper(or salt) and vinegar.

There is NOTHING that you can't make veggie-style!
Try this recipe:
http://www.vegan-food.net/recipe/1198/The-Best-Fish-and-Chips/
I've never been into fish so I haven't tried it, but that recipe is from one of my all-time favorite recipe sites so it might be worth giving it a shot.
For the batter, I'd just mix a little folour with water, then prep a big bowl fo flour with whatever spices you want (I like a lot of pepper and cayenne when I'm battering something). Dip the tofu in the water/flour mixtuer, then in the flour, then BACK in the water then into the flour one more time. OR you could get some tempura batter mix if you want it to be the really light, crispy batter you were probably used to.
If you're really dying to have something greasy and crispy just buy some oil and some frozen "chips" and fry the night away.
Once in a while won't hurt you!

LOL at whoevers going on about fish being healthy. I think the deep frying outweighs any omega 3s in there!

Anyhooooo
you can buy microwave chipshop chips in the freezer bit of supermarkets now! they taste quite authentic in the way theyre really stodgy (then again all microwave chips are) and just shove salt and vinegar on them?

as for the fish bit, cant help never liked it - sorry!

go steal a wooden chip fork to add to authenticity whatever you do, heehe

For the fish craving try eating foods rich in omega 3.

With the chip craving I found a Spanish omelette ( a real one with potatoes that is) helps to get rid of it.

McDonald's UK French Fries are officially accredited by the UK Vegetarian Society. (they use separate frier's and veg fat only) Although I couldn't find anything to confirm that on the veg society website! Chip shop chips might be ok, if not cooked in dripping or with other meaty/fishy products. I usually ask the shop staff or fryer.

Cravings can be the result of a nutritional defeciency, look at your diet and troubleshoot it, alternativaly find your local neils yard or somwhere like that for advice, they all have quilified nutritionalists working for them.

Maybe however, you (like the rest of us from time to time) simply fancy a nice unhealthy deep fat fried dinner once in a while. If this is the case, find a veg friendly chippy (there are plenty about), make your own, or if you really want to try the real thing, get a friend to buy a fish supper and try a small bit :p

If worse comes to worst, have the fish and chips. After 6 years, chances are you're not going to enjoy them. I used to love fish and chips. After 8 months of being vegetarian I tried them and it tasted disgusting.

I don't think we are giving you enough credit for what you are saying. You are doing a great job resisting your craving. You were free to go in that chippy at any time and nobody could have stopped you. But you listened to your heart and didn't give in. A big well done to ya! : )
