Yes, cold sores (oral herpes) can be spread by sharing a drink with someone who has them, sharing chap stick, lip stick, a cigarette, etc.

If you drank from a random cup and the person who was drinking out of it had cold sores, then it's possible for you to have contracted cold sores (oral herpes).

Canker sores are NOT herpes. Canker sores are basically ulcers which almost always appear on the INSIDE of a persons mouth. They can appear on the tongue, gums, cheeks, inside the lip, etc. Canker sores are NOT contagious. They are usually caused by stress, allergies, accidentally biting your tongue or cheek, etc.

Cold sores ARE herpes and ARE contagious. They usually appear on the OUTSIDE of a person mouth. They are caused by a virus and there is no cure for them.

If you are concerned you have herpes you can always get tested by your doctor. 75 - 80% of the WORLD has cold sores, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Good luck!

It's possible if you take a sip of a drink directly after some one with a cold sore took a sip of the same drink. Herpes doesn't survive in fluids or on objects for more then seconds. Most of the time oral herpes are passed during child hood by being innocently kissed by some one that has cold sores. The same could have happened to your boy friend's friend when they were a child. Cold sores on the mouth often have nothing to do with having oral sex or sexual intercourse. But they can be passed to the genitals if this person gives oral sex while they have a cold sore on their mouth. It's possible but you can have one type of herpes with out having the other. Just because she has oral herpes that doesn't mean that she automatically has genital herpes too. they are more likely to pass cold sore to their partner's genitals when having oral sex, then by passing it through sharing drinks. One more thing, herpes isn't always 100 percent automatically passed on when you have sex.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

I would think that you would be okay... the cut was probably bothered by all the alcohol, and got somewhat infected. I probably would be weirded out in your case, but unless someone had herpes and they were seriously like licking the cup and going pyscho with it, then you might would have something to worry about. Don't stress yourself out over it, just go to a clinic or your doctor and have someone look at it, or get tested for that or every STD. It's quick and simple. Good luck, and I know it's hard to stay calm, but you'll be fine.

I know exactly hat you are going through. First let me explain that CANKER sores are not a form of herpes. Canker sores are also not contagious, they are brought on by stress.

To better answer your questions, please let me say that herpes is a cold sore, usually found on the lips or in the area around your lips. A canker sore is different.

The answer however is yes. You can get herpes from sharing drinks from someone who has herpes. Usually the symptoms take about 7 to 10 days to appear.

If you end up getting herpes, there is a great topical solution that works better than valtrex and reduces the chances of getting outbreaks. Here is the link. It also has some great facts and myths about the disease.

I know its probably hard to hear...:dont worry too much..but the reality is that it is said that 80 to 90% of americans have cold sores...aka herpes.

If you do have it ....the more you stress the more likely you are to have an outbreak. The easiest wasy to find out is to get tested.
See your primary doctor. However check out the link. It is great!Best of Luck.
