If you are overweight, losing weight, eating healthy, and exercise is the best way to prevent developing type 2 diabetes. But just because you lose weight does not mean you will not get it. T1 is autoimmune disorder and is not preventable. There have been some studies done that say "Just 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity, coupled with a 5-10% reduction in body weight, produced a 58% reduction in diabetes."

Lose weight (check with the nurse and see what your ideal weight is supposed to be) and exercise regularly. Also eat sensibly and drop the junkfood.
