Please don't lump all veg*ans in with PETA. Many of us hate their tactics.
A better question is, Can veg*ans and omnis find middle ground? And the answer is yes.
1) We should all agree that veal and foie gras are utterly unacceptable, egregious forms of cruelty.
2) If you must eat animal products, look for products from less cruelly raised animals. Eat less meat, dairy, and eggs, whether you reduce the amount at a meal or only eat it a few times a week. There really is no such thing as humane killing. There is no such thing as humane meat.
3) Fur is unacceptable.
4) Rodeos, animal circuses, horse racing, and greyhound racing are industries that need to end.
5) Animal testing for cosmetics and household cleaners is cruel and unnecessary. Pharmaceutical companies should look for alternatives to animal testing.
Granted, the meat, dairy, and egg industries account for 95 percent of the animals exploited and killed in the U.S., but if an omni can avoid the non-meat stuff, that's a baby step in the right direction.

I'm a vegan and am personally against killing animals in general. I've seen and read some things that just made me find meat and all animal products disgusting (and i grew up on meat and dairy)
I support PETA in what they're trying to do, but not how they're doing it. They know how to make a point, but it seems like every ad they make gets banned everywhere you look. Except on the PETA website. PETA needs to tone it down so they can get their message across worldwide.
AS far as the common ground thing goes. No i don't think they will ever get along because Meat is a Multi billion dollar industry and if the animals were given all those "perks" then production would slow down significantly and that means less money for the Meat industry and that's a big No-No.
So NO they will never find common ground.

Peta and meat eater will never find common ground. Peta is against using animals for any reason. Meat eating on the other hand involves the death of an animals.

YES!
veal is a sad sad reality.
Our diets have to change as meat eaters to something better for our health (consume more whole foods: plants, fruits, veggies, etc) which will subsequently help out the cows and other mangled animals on the chopping block. we should go back to our roots-be omnivores!!!
I think, because there is so much demand for meat- many markets have to compete and cut down costs- so ethics goes out the window when trying to make a buck.
And eating a lot of meat isn't particularly good for us humans. Hence the rise in Diabetes, Heart Disease, cholestorol, high blood pressure, etc.
Mad cow disease doesn't come from happy cows. Happy cows eat grass and eat 'natural' things-not anitbiotics, hormores and all kinds of gross stuff, are free range and less stressed, making them healthy cows. We usually eat the stressed out animals, injected with antibiotics, steriods, and very unhealthy-no excerise.
I think if a common ground is reached it will be on NUTRITION. People are becoming very unhealthy and drugged up just like most of the meat we eat. And I wouldn't consider eating less meat a "sacrifice", and I would feel a whole lot better (physically and morally) eating meat from happy well kept animals, that were humanly killed.
The bottom line is: Meat will always be consumed by the majority of the population. Yet at the same time most of use do not care about the quality of the dead carcasses we ingest.
CHECK out this website for more info on taking care of your health and nutrition (very infromative)

Someone has to look out for the animals.
As long as there's profit in the animals and animal by-products, it will be inhumane treatment for the creatures involved. I'm sure there are exceptions for the smaller companies.
Whenever you drink milk, you support the veal production.
Whenever you eat eggs, you support the killing of millions of male chicks.
Get the picture?

Sure, that's what PETA is all about.
Sure, some hope to end it all, but it really is all about the Ethical Treatment of Animals, not to put an entire end to the eating of animals. I don't see a reason that they should not to be idealistic in their views and support vegetarianism too.

So the "common ground" would be that the animals would be killed for someone to eat meat when they don't have to, but they would be "nice" about it? Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
Also, given that the current state of animal "welfare" is horrific in this country's slaughterhouses, you DO NOT love animals if you continue to support the meat industries.

I think that the prevailing opinion here is correct, sadly.
My experience with PETA adherents is similar to that with people of Fundamentalist religious beliefs. That is, PETA has a very "hard line" view of what is legitimate animal treatment.
At the risk of misinterpreting their point of view, I believe PETA members feel that animals have similar (if not the same) rights as humans. So, it is no more ethical (from PETA's point of view) to raise an animal to be eaten than it is to raise a human for the same purpose.
I believe it is fair to describe this attitude as "extreme" to say the least. Therefore, I doubt very much if there is common ground to be reached between PETA and us carnivores.

Sounds nice... but it won't happen. Agribusiness is concerned about their bottom line... not about the health and well being of an animal that is just going to die anyway. They don't see cows as animals, they see cows as product.
As for PETA... F*** PETA! I'm a vegetarian and I have nothing to do with that s***hole of an organization. Please don't assume that every vegetarian is a card carrying member of PETA. Most of the vegetarians I know agree with me, and would never support such an extremist organization as theirs. It has already been said, but PETA will never find common ground with agribusiness. They are too extremist and will not stop until they "win".

I have to agree with PETA. If it was not for PETA's Meet Your Meat video I would have never become a vegan. So PETA gets my vote.
